We present a very rare case of gigantic hydrocalycosis which was caused by an obstructed stone. It was so large that it displaced the rest kidney into the contralateral lumbar fossa giving the appearance of a crossed ectopic kidney.

Hemostatic profiles (prothrombin time, activated partial thromboplastin time, fibrinogen concentration, fibrin degradation product concentration, platelet count, and antithrombin III activity) were acquired prospectively in 20 dogs with a diagnosis of gastric dilatation-volvulus. We report on 5 babies found to have pyelocaliectasis or hydroureteronephrosis antenatally who were evaluated soon after birth because of persistent mild or moderate upper urinary tract dilatation. Gastric dilatation-volvulus (GDV) was created experimentally and maintained for 90 minutes in 16 anesthetized, mixed-breed dogs. Examination of case records of 914 military working dogs which died during the period January 1, 1987-December 31, 1989, revealed 31 deaths (3.4%) due to gastric dilatation-volvulus (GDV) or its complications. The fata episode of GDV was the only reported occurrence of this condition in 81% of the dogs. A distinct peliosis-like lesion arose in the liver allograft of a 51 year old man. This lesion was caused by necrotic, fat-laden hepatocytes that released fat globules into the sinusoids. These then became strikingly distended with cysts, thus mimicking peliosis hepatitis. It is suggested that this lesion be called lipopeliosis.

A case of transient dilatation of intra and extrahepatic bile ducts in the course of an infectious disease is described in a three-year-old girl. A prospective study was carried out during 1986 to find out the incidence of fetal renal tract anomalies in 3228 pregnant mothers delivered in one hospital. Ultrasound examination of the fetus was performed as part of the routine antenatal assessment at 16-20 weeks' gestation, and later examinations were done if there were obstetric indications. Increased mortality occurred among sows in a pig-breeding unit during a few months. It was concluded that gastric torsion was one of the causes of death. This disease is becoming increasingly important in large intensive units, also in the Netherlands. Little is so far known of the origin of this syndrome. The feeding system and the quality of the food (fine-grained feed, contamination by toxic agents) could be a factor in the pathogenesis. Closer investigation of this economic problem would appear to be advisable.

The feasibility of using balloon dilatation to relieve stenosis caused by dysplasia of the pulmonary valve was assessed in seven patients (five female, mean age two years) with angiographically confirmed dysplasia who were identified among 38 patients with pulmonary valve stenosis selected for balloon dilatation over a two year period.
