Aptamer-based analyses of plasma proteome in individuals with post-COVID condition who underwent tailored physical activity.

INTRODUCTION: Post-COVID condition (PCC) encompasses a spectrum of clinical symptoms affecting multiple organs that persist for >3 months after resolution of the initial SARS-CoV-2 infection. The complex nature of PCC symptoms makes it difficult to decipher the mechanistic basis of disease and establish efficient pharmacological interventions. However, non-pharmacological approaches such as personalized physical exercise regimen has been shown to improve the quality of life in PCC patients. Among the non-pharmacological interventions for PCC, physical rehabilitation, especially symptom-titrate

[Exercise preconditioning reduces exercise-induced risks of cardiovascular events in obese population].

Obesity is an independent risk factor of cardiovascular diseases. Epidemiological studies have shown that obesity induces the production of inflammatory factors and changes in cardiac hemodynamics, remodeling and function, leading to myocardial damage and heart diseases. The positive effect of exercise on the cardiovascular system has been widely confirmed, while the acute cardiovascular stress caused by exercise cannot be ignored. Compared with the general population, obese people were more prone to arrhythmia and have a higher risk of cardiovascular events during exercise, due to their abnor

Exercise intolerance in kidney diseases: physiological contributors and therapeutic strategies.

Exertional fatigue, defined as the overwhelming and debilitating sense of sustained exhaustion that impacts the ability to perform activitie … c and resistance exercise training, are discussed, and the lack of dietary interventions to improve exercise tolerance is highlighted. Current and prospective pharmaceutical and nutraceutical strategies to improve exertional fatigue are also broached. An extensive understanding of the pathophysiological mechanisms of exercise intolerance will allow for the developme …

Improvement in serial cardiopulmonary exercise testing following enzyme replacement therapy in Fabry disease.

BACKGROUND: Fabry disease is an X-linked genetic disorder resulting in the accumulation of glycosphingolipids in various organs, leading to … mated stroke volume (SV) increased by 10 ml in patients on ERT. CONCLUSIONS: In this small cohort, exercise tolerance increased in patients receiving enzyme replacement therapy. Cardiopulmonary exercise testing is a useful test in measuring the response to therapy in Fabry disease patients.

Relationship between exercise capacity and ventilatory equivalent for carbon dioxide in patients with stable old myocardial infarction.

The aim of the present study was to evaluate the relationship between exercise capacity and ventilatory response in patients with stable old … y. Thus, the SLOPE was steeper in patients with lower peakVO2. It is difficult to perform a maximal exercise tolerance test on patients with chronic heart failure to evaluate their exercise capacity. We can assess exercise capacity by the slope of the linear regression line between VCO2 and VE (SLOPE) at the lower exercise level.

Contribution of the respiratory muscles to the lactic acidosis of heavy exercise in COPD.

Patients with COPD usually are limited in their exercise tolerance by a limited ventilatory capacity. Lactic acidosis induced by exercise increases the stress on the ventilatory system due to CO2 generated by bicarbonate buffering and hydrogen ion stimulation. Patients with COPD are often observed to increase blood lactate levels at low levels of exercise. We wished to determine whether patients with COPD who experience lactic acidosis do so because of respiratory muscle production of lactate. Eight patients with moderate to severe COPD (FEV1 = 43.5 +/- 11.6% predicted) and 5 healthy subjects …

Increased skeletal muscle capillarization after aerobic exercise training and weight loss improves insulin sensitivity in adults with IGT.

OBJECTIVE: Transcapillary transport of insulin is one determinant of glucose uptake by skeletal muscle; thus, a reduction in capillary density (CD) may worsen insulin sensitivity. Skeletal muscle CD is lower in older adults with impaired glucose tolerance (IGT) compared with those with normal glucose tolerance and may be modifiable through aerobic exercise training and weight loss (AEX+WL). We tested the hypothesis that 6-month AEX+WL would increase CD to improve insulin sensitivity and glucose tolerance in older adults with IGT. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS: Sixteen sedentary, overweight-obes

Treating premature ejaculation in the multi-modal therapeutic framework: a single case study.

Generally, premature ejaculation is caused by organic, psychological, interpersonal factors and lay beliefs. It is defined as a lack of adequate voluntary ejaculatory control with the result that a patient climaxes involuntarily. An ejaculatory control may be said to be established when the patient can tolerate high levels of excitement which characterise the plateau stage of the sexual response cycle without ejaculating reflexly. The most effective treatment for premature ejaculation so far is the stop-start exercises that aim to help patients tolerate a prolonged period of intense pleasurabl

Strengthening oropharyngeal muscles as an approach to treat post-stroke obstructive sleep apnea: A feasibility randomised controlled trial.

This study aimed to determine the feasibility of a randomised controlled trial (RCT) evaluating oropharyngeal exercise (OPE) intervention as an alternative therapy for obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) in patients with stroke or transient ischaemic attack (TIA). Despite the high prevalence of OSA in this population, the standard therapy, continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP), is often poorly tolerated. Thirty stroke/TIA patients with OSA unable to tolerate CPAP were randomly assigned to an oropharyngeal exercise or sham exercise protocol. They performed exercises for 6 weeks, 5 days per week,

A narrative review of exercise dose during pregnancy.

The current recommendations for prenatal exercise dose align with those from the American College of Sports Medicine; 150 min of moderate intensity every week of pregnancy. However, recent works suggest there may be a dose-dependent beneficial effect for mother and offspring; maternal and offspring health outcomes respond differently to low, medium, and high doses of prenatal exercise. It is, therefore, our aim to summarize the published evidence (years 1950-2023) for five metrics of prenatal exercise training commonly reported, that is, "FITT-V": Frequency (number of sessions), Intensity (met
