MR appearance of two patients with large, orbital conjunctival epithelium-lined inclusion cysts are presented. Both were complications of ophthalmic surgical procedures that necessitated conjunctival incision.

Four patients underwent cataract extraction with implantation of intraocular lenses. Preoperative ultrasonography did not include a comprehensive diagnostic B-scan analysis. Postoperative examination revealed uveal melanomas. The clinical presentations as well as the histopathologic findings of the two enucleated eyes are discussed. These cases emphasize the necessity for B-scan ultrasonography prior to cataract surgery when media opacity prevents adequate visualization of the fundus.

Uveal melanoma is a cancer (melanoma) of the eye involving the iris, ciliary body, or choroid (collectively referred to as the uvea). A retrospective clinicopathologic review of 105 cases of sympathetic ophthalmia showed histologic features of prognostic significance and evaluated the role of therapy. Scedosporium apiospermum is an increasingly recognized cause of endogenous fungal endophthalmitis in immunocompromised patients. GKNS for uveal melanoma has become a recognized valued treatment which avoids enucleation of the eye. In the early days, the eccentric location of these tumors made treatment difficult, but Gamma Knife Perfexion has solved that problem. It is known that larger tumors and tumors with an anterior location have a worse prognosis. GKNS has also been of rather unexpected benefit in optic nerve gliomas that require treatment. Choroidal hemangiomas may benefit from treatment as can secondary glaucoma. It has also been found to be beneficial in the treatment of thyrotoxic ophthalmopathy.
