BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Alopecia areata (AA) is an autoimmune disease characterized by noncicatricial hair loss localized on hair, beard, mustache, eyebrow, eyelash, and sometimes on the body. Although etiopathogenesis is not fully understood, many studies show remarkable associations between various diseases and ABO blood groups. However, there is no study with AA and blood groups.
METHODS: Healthy people and patients with AA were included in this study. A total of 155 patients with AA and 299 healthy controls were included in the study.

In this report we present a case of erlotinib-induced trichomegaly in a male patient who received erlotinib for his pancreatic cancer. Trichomegaly as a side effect of epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) inhibitor therapy is uncommon in male patients. Also, it has not been reported previously in a patient with pancreatic cancer. Previous reported cases all involved female lung cancer patients. We emphasize the importance of recognizing the side effects of EGFR inhibitor therapy and its implications on the prognosis of the cancer treated.

This article presents a methodology for the rapid assessment of trachoma that was validated against a prevalence survey, undertaken simultaneously in the same 12 villages in central Tanzania. The rapid assessment protocol suggests examinations for active trachoma in 50 children ages 1-10 in at least 20 households chosen from the high-risk neighborhoods in each village. AIMS: To assess the outcome of inferior retractor plication surgery for lower lid entropion in patients with ocular cicatricial pemphigoid (OCP). This technique avoids surgery on the conjunctiva that can result in exacerbations of disease activity.

PURPOSE: We evaluated the use of hard-palate mucosa grafts in the treatment of cicatricial entropion and trichiasis associated with Stevens-Johnson syndrome.
