BACKGROUND: With the improved survival for patients with bone sarcomas, there is a trend to reconstruct intercalary femur defects using biologic techniques. This study examined whether the results of a frozen femur autograft with vascularised fibula are comparable to other reconstructive options in terms of the functional outcomes and the complications.

Nine cases of peliosis hepatis are reported: five of these were associated with the administration of androgen or anabolic androgenic steroids and a sixth with large doses of medroxy-progesterone acetate. Osteosarcoma arising from cortical surface is classified into parosteal, periosteal and high-grade surface osteosarcoma. Intra-articular osteoid osteoma (IAOO) is rare and non-specific both in clinical and radiographic presentations, thus often associated with delayed diagnosis. Synovitis and muscle atrophy occur in adult IAOO. Bony deformity can occur in children and has been ascribed to muscle contractures. We report a case of a child with IAOO in the femoral neck. There was an absence of muscle contracture during surgery, and therefore the femoral deformity may have been induced directly by IAOO in the early stage of the disease.

We describe a surgical technique for replacing the hip joint capsule using synthetic mesh after oncological resections of the proximal femur that resulted in gross intraoperative instability of the prosthetic reconstruction.
