Natural henna is known to have a very low allergic potential. We describe here an exceptional case of bullous contact dermatitis caused by pure henna.

The pathogens of onychomycosis have implications in choosing therapy. We aimed to survey the pathogens of onychomycosis in Taiwan and further analyse the distribution of pathogens in various conditions. We also compared the distribution of pathogens in Taiwan with those in various countries. This study included 182 cases of onychomycosis who attended our clinic between January and December 2001. Histopathologic examination and fungus culture of the nail specimens were performed to confirm the diagnosis and identify the pathogens. The pathogens were dermatophytes in 101 patients (55.5%), Candid

The cases of nineteen patients with sternocostoclavicular hyperostosis were reviewed retrospectively. Of particular interest were the responses to antibiotics and prostaglandin inhibitors. The prostaglandin inhibitors relieved the pain within three to four weeks in sixteen of eighteen patients so treated. However, the inhibitors gradually became less effective in most patients. Oral antibiotics were more effective than the inhibitors in relieving the pain of eight of the eleven patients who were given antibiotics. Pustulosis palmaris and plantaris, commonly associated with sternocostoclavicula

The relationship between pustulosis palmaris et plantaris (PPP) and immune complexes was studied in 17 patients who underwent tonsillectomy. By means of the Clq-binding test, immune complexes were detected in a considerable number of sera from these patients. Patients with a high serum level of immune complexes which decreased following tonsillectomy were found to benefit by a remarkable improvement in their skin lesions. There was a close association between the degree of improvement in skin lesions following tonsillectomy, and the changes in circulating immune complex levels after tonsillect

BACKGROUND: Methylene blue (MB) and flavin mononucleotide (FMN)-mediated photodynamic therapy (PDT) have demonstrated local antimicrobial effect, but no direct comparative study has been published so far for the treatment of toenail onychomycosis.
OBJECTIVES: To directly compare the short and medium-term efficacy of MB versus FMN as photosensitizers in PDT for toenail onychomycosis by applying them in a 40% w/w urea cream in two different dye concentrations.
METHODS: Forty toenails with distal and lateral subungual moderate onychomycosis due to dermatophyte fungi were randomised to receive 1

Fosravuconazole L-lysine ethanolate (F-RVCZ), a ravuconazole prodrug, is a newly available agent with high expectations for efficacy in the treatment of onychomycosis. However, clinical data regarding the efficacy of F-RVCZ are limited because the drug was launched only in Japan in 2018. Therefore, we analyzed the outcome of F-RVCZ therapy in the treatment of onychomycosis at outpatient dermatology clinics in Japan. We examined data for 109 patients (68 male, 41 female) with varying clinical type, including total dystrophic onychomycosis and dermatophytoma, and a wide range of age groups, incl

Onychomycosis is a chronic fungal infection of the nails and is commonly observed in adults, especially the elderly, those who are diabetic, have poor peripheral circulation, and are immunocompromised; however, onychomycosis in children is being reported more frequently, especially in older children. There could also be a genetic predisposition to developing onychomycosis. Given that onychomycosis is uncommon in children, it is important to confirm the diagnosis mycologically. Treatment of onychomycosis includes oral or topical antifungal agents. In North America, the available oral antifungal

BACKGROUND: Onychomycosis affects around 14% of individuals in North America and Europe and is undertreated. Treatment is challenging as toenail growth can take 12–18 months, the nail plate may prevent drug penetration, and disease recurrence is common. National guidelines/consensus documents on onychomycosis diagnosis and treatment were last published more than 5 years ago and updated medical guidance is needed.
METHODS: This document aims to provide recommendations for the diagnosis and pharmaceutical treatment of toenail onychomycosis following a roundtable discussion with a panel of

Onychomycosis is a difficult to treat condition whose prevalence is increasing. Until recently, there was no FDA approved antifungal agent for the treatment of onychomycosis in children. Although systemic antifungal agents are effective, their use is restricted by the potential adverse events and drug-drug interactions. There is evidence regarding the safety and efficacy of topical antifungal agents for pediatric onychomycosis. We have summarized the results of a recently published study using efinaconazole topical solution 10% to treat onychomycosis in children and discuss management of pedia

CLINICAL QUESTION: Which oral antifungal medication is associated with the highest clinical (ie, normal appearance of the toenail) and mycological (negative culture, microscopy, or both) cure rates vs placebo or other antifungals when used to treat fungal infections?
BOTTOM LINE: Both terbinafine and azole-based medications were associated with higher clinical and mycological cure rates compared with placebo (high-quality evidence). Azoles were associated with lower cure rates than terbinafine when compared directly.

This study determined ME1111 onychopharmacokinetics and possible topical antifungals' clinical efficacy in human great toenails using an in vitro finite dose model. ME1111 topical formulations in 1, 5, 10 or 15% for 3 days observation and 1, 5 or 10% for 14 days observation, respectively, were used to determine ME1111 penetration rate and transungual kinetics. ME1111 concentrations in the deeper nail (ventral/intermediate layers) and a cotton pad/nail bed, were several orders of magnitude greater than MIC90 and MFC90 for three major dermatophytes. ME1111 concentrations 3 days after a single an

Erosive lichen planus is an uncommon variant of lichen planus. Chronic erosions of the soles, accompanied by intense and disabling pain, are some of its most characteristic manifestations. We present the case of a woman who developed oral and plantar erosive lichen planus associated with lichen planus pigmentosus and ungueal lichen planus that were diagnosed after several years. The patient failed to respond to multiple therapies requiring longstanding medication but remained refractory. Knowledge of the treatment options for erosive lichen planus is insufficient. Further research is required
