Peripheral T-Cell Lymphoma Presenting as a Scalp Mass.

Peripheral scalp T-cell lymphoma is a very rare disease. We report a case of a 22-year-old man who presented an indolent large scalp mass in the right frontal scalp region. The patient's physical examination demonstrated no palpable mass in the chest, abdomen, and extremities. The brain CT revealed a high-density large scalp mass of the subgaleal layer in the right frontal and a small scalp mass of the subgaleal layer in the left frontal. The brain MRI showed multifocal enhancing masses in the bilateral dura, the subgaleal layer of the scalp, and the skull. The patient underwent removal of the

The lucent (CT) and enhancing (MR) rim, a sign of Paget's disease of the skull: case report.

Osteoporosis circumscripta is sometimes observed at the skull vault and corresponds to the initial stage of Paget's disease of the bone. Differentiating osteoporosis circumscripta from other reasons for osteolytic images of the vault may be difficult. We report a case of osteoporosis circumscripta of the frontal bone. A lucent rim seen on CT scan, which was enhanced on gadolinium-enhanced MRI, delineated the abnormal bone. The patient was a 50-year-old woman who had CT scans of the skull for chronic sinusitis. Pathology examination showed typical bone changes of Paget's disease. The lucent and…

Mandibular intraosseous lipoma: clinical features of a condylar location.

Lipomas are common benign neoplasms affecting many adipose tissue-containing organs of the body, including bone. Central lesions in bone account for less than 1% of all lipomas. In the literature, intraosseous lipomas have been reported in various bones such as the frontal and parietal bones, ribs, ulna, phalanges of hand and foot, femoral neck, fibula and calcaneum. No preference has been described for gender or race. As far as the authors know, there have been no documented cases of intraosseous lipoma involving the temporomandibular joint. This report describes a rare case of mandibular int

Intracranial intradural aneurysmal bone cyst: a unique case.

Aneurysmal bone cyst (ABC) of the skull is exceedingly rare. We report a unique case of an intradural ABC without bone involvement presenting with raised intracranial pressure. The patient was a 14-year-old boy who presented with headache, vomiting and right focal seizure. Imaging showed a large multicystic left frontal lesion without any evidence of bone involvement. The lesion adherent to an intact sphenoid wing dura was completely excised. The histopathology report was consistent with an ABC. This case represents the first report of an ABC without involvement of the skull bones or any evide

Solid Variant of Aneurysmal Bone Cyst (SVABC) of the Left Fibula Bone: A Rare Case Report.

INTRODUCTION: Solid variant of aneurysmal bone cyst (SVABC) is a rare subtype of aneurysmal bone cyst (ABC) that presents as a solid, densely sclerotic lesion that can be more difficult to distinguish from other bone tumors and can lead to a wrong diagnosis. The SVABC rarely occurs in the long bones of the lower extremities. CASE PRESENTATION: In this report, we present a rare case of SVABC in a 25-year-old male patient, which was seen in the left fibula bone. The patient had a history of trauma for 7 years. A physical examination showed a non-tender swelling in his left fibula bone. A preope

Treatment of frontal sinus fracture using bioabsorbable mesh plates.

Accurate reduction and stable fixation are important in the treatment of frontal sinus fracture. Usually, metal plates and screws were used because of easy handling and delicate fixation. However, palpability and possibility for secondary operation for plate removal were shortcomings. For improving these problems, we used absorbable mesh plate for fixation of reduced frontal bones. In this study, 14 patients with frontal sinus fracture were treated by open reduction and rigid fixation using absorbable mesh plates. Mean follow-up period was 17.6 months. Considering anterior and posterior table i…

A cross-sectional CBCT assessment of the relative position of one-piece titanium-zirconium mini-implants placed for mandibular overdentures using non-guided surgery.

OBJECTIVE: To assess the relative position of mini-implants to retain a mandibular overdenture, according to the surgical protocol, technical and anatomical factors. METHODS: Mandibular cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) scans were analyzed for 73 patients who received four one-piece titanium-zirconium mini-implants. Drilling was performed using a 1.6 mm needle drill and a 2.2 mm Pilot Drill, according to the bone density with a surgical stent. Post-insertion CBCT images in DICOM format were analyzed using the E-Vol-DX software with BAR filters. Divergence angle between implants and between

Orbital Tumor As First Manifestation of Metastatic Renal Cell Carcinoma.

Orbital metastasis from renal cell carcinoma (RCC) is uncommon. Orbital tumor, as the first presentation of RCC, is rare as the majority of orbital metastases occur after a confirmed diagnosis of primary cancer. We report a case of the metastatic orbital tumor as the first manifestation of RCC, which presented with painless left eye proptosis for two months' duration, associated with blurring of vision and diplopia. Otherwise, the systemic review was unremarkable. Examination showed left eye non-axial proptosis with a pulsatile, multilobulated mass over the left supraorbital area extending to

Primary osteolytic intraosseous atypical meningioma with soft tissue and dural invasion: report of a case and review of literatures.

Primary intraosseous meningioma is a rare tumor, and atypical pathologic components both osteolytic lesion and dura and soft tissue invasion is extremely rare. A 65-year-old woman presented with a 5-month history of a soft mass on the right frontal area. MR imaging revealed a 4 cm sized, multilobulated, strongly-enhancing lesion on the right frontal bone, and CT showed a destructive skull lesion. The mass was adhered tightly to the scalp and dura mater, and it extended to some part of the outer and inner dural layers without brain invasion. The extradural mass and soft tissue mass were totally…

Clinical implications, diagnosis, and treatment of a giant frontoethmoid osteoma.

Osteomas are benign, asymptomatic fibro-osseous tumors that are most commonly observed in the paranasal sinuses and sometimes are found in imaging examinations that were taken for other reasons. Giant osteomas are rarely found in the frontal and ethmoid sinuses but, when they are, they may cause intracranial and orbital complications. The aims of this case report are to describe a frontoethmoid osteoma in a 40-year-old woman, discuss the characteristics of this lesion through cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) imaging, and review the options for treatment. A CBCT examination performed for th

Single-Stage Combined Craniofacial Repair for Frontoethmoidal Meningoencephalocele.

INTRODUCTION: Frontoethmoidal meningoencephalocele (FMEC) is a rare congenital anomaly characterized by herniation of brain tissue and meninges through a defect in the cranium and associated with facial dysmorphism. Treatment modalities include extra cranial, transcranial, or combined craniofacial approaches. The combined approach is considered the best treatment choice. METHODS: Twelve patients with FMEC aging from 6 months to 4 years were treated by single-stage combined craniofacial approach between July 2011 and July 2015. They were followed up for evaluation of outcome and detection of c

Unilateral frontosphenoidal craniosynostosis with achondroplasia: a case report.

Isolated, premature fusion of the frontosphenoidal suture is rare. This report describes an unusual combination of frontosphenoidal craniosynostosis and achondroplasia. Although craniosynostosis is known to occur in allelic conditions such as thanatophoric dysplasia, craniosynostosis in individuals with achondroplasia is exceedingly rare. Due to the distracting diagnosis of achondroplasia or inadequate knowledge of craniosynostosis, the abnormal head shape was initially treated by other physicians with helmet molding. Plastic surgery consultation was obtained at 2 years of age and surgical car
