Overview and Methodology of the National HIV Behavioral Surveillance Among Transgender Women - Seven Urban Areas, United States, 2019-2020.

Transgender women, especially transgender women of color, are disproportionately affected by HIV. However, no surveillance system collects data on HIV risk factors among this population. To address this gap, CDC developed a surveillance system entitled National HIV Behavioral Surveillance Among Transgender Women (NHBS-Trans) to assess behavioral and contextual data through systematic biobehavioral surveillance to monitor behavioral risk factors, prevention usage, and HIV prevalence among transgender women. NHBS-Trans used respondent-driven sampling in seven urban areas in the United States. Tr

Work2Prevent, an Employment Intervention Program as HIV Prevention for Young Men Who Have Sex With Men and Transgender Youth of Color (Phase 3): Protocol for a Single-Arm Community-Based Trial to Assess Feasibility and Acceptability in a Real-World Setting.

BACKGROUND: In the United States, young cisgender men who have sex with men (YMSM), young transgender women (YTW), and gender nonconforming (GNC) youth face elevated rates of HIV infection. However, racial and ethnic disparities in adolescent HIV infection cannot be attributed to individual-level factors alone and are situated within larger social and structural contexts that marginalize and predispose sexual and gender minority youth of color to HIV. Addressing broader ecological factors that drive transmission requires interventions that focus on the distal drivers of HIV infection, includin

Latent classes and predictors of aggression trajectories in Korean adolescents: Implications for targeted prevention.

School violence and juvenile crime are emerging social problems in Korea. Adolescent aggression, an important mediator linking risk factors in the developmental environment to more serious deviant behavior, exerts long-term cumulative effects into adulthood. Thus, a longitudinal examination of aggression among adolescents is crucial. This study identified differential longitudinal trajectories of aggression in Korean adolescents and investigated the predictors distinguishing these latent classes. Data were used from 2,016 adolescents from Waves 1-5 (2018-2022) of the Korean Children and Youth

Canadian medical student knowledge and attitudes toward female genital mutilation.

BACKGROUND: Despite female genital mutilation/cutting (FGM/C) practices being an illegal form of gender-based violence in Canada, this practice impacts many Canadians. Lack of education and training among Canadian health-care providers has resulted in systematic barriers to care. Awareness and FGM/C-related education among Canadian health-care providers must be urgently assessed. METHODS: Canadian medical students were recruited to complete an anonymous survey via E-mails distributed through their schools' student organization between January and March 2021. We evaluated student understanding…

Harmful Alcohol Use and Associated Socio-Structural Factors among Female Sex Workers Initiating HIV Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

Harmful alcohol use is an important risk factor for premature mortality and morbidity and associated with increased HIV risk and lower uptak … ed mobility (aPR: 1.36, 95% CI: 1.11-1.61), arrest/incarceration (aPR: 1.55, 95% CI: 1.27-1.84) and gender-based violence (aPR: 1.31, 95% CI: 1.06-1.56). The high prevalence of harmful alcohol use and the interconnectedness with socio-structural factors indicate a need for a holistic programmatic approach to health for female sex workers. Programming should not solely …

The Association Between Sickle Cell Trait in U.S. Service Members with Deployment, Length of Service, and Mortality, 1992-2012.

INTRODUCTION: Sickle cell trait (SCT) affects an estimated 5.02% of non-Hispanic blacks, 1.08% of Hispanics, and 0.1% of Whites in the U.S. military. Policies for SCT screening and occupational restrictions vary by service. Population-based studies of SCT with quantification of military-relevant outcomes are lacking. METHODS: The study design was a retrospective cohort of 15,081 SCT-positive versus 60,320 SCT-negative U.S. active duty personnel enlisted from 1992 to 2012 and followed through 2013. Determinants of clinical outcome and length of stay in acute care forensic psychiatry units.

Criminological and sociodemographic variables, such as previous criminal convictions, increased risk of violence, early onset of mental disorder, antisocial personality, psychosis and low social support, have all been related to longer length of stay (LoS) and poorer outcome in long stay forensic services. The factors impacting on LoS and clinical response in acute care specialized units are poorly documented. To address this issue, we examined the psychiatric records of all cases admitted between January 1st and December 31th 2020 in the sole acute ward for detained persons located in the cen

This study evaluates the additional impact of Mlambe on IPV and relationship dynamics. METHODS: In a pilot randomized controlled trial, 78 married couples (156 individuals) living with HIV and reporting unhealthy

Partner conflict during their index pregnancy and its correlates among a cohort of six weeks postpartum women in Ethiopia.

Current intimate partner violence (IPV) during pregnancy was found to be associated with adverse health outcomes including pregnancy loss, preterm labor, pregnancy complications, hypertension, delivering low birth weight baby, physical injuries and stress. IPV in Ethiopia is considerably high. This study aimed at determining the prevalence of the IPV during the index pregnancy as measured at six weeks postpartum among women in their extended six weeks postpartum period and identify its correlates.
