Too Good to Be True: Comparing Self-Reported Lying Habits Among Credible and Non-Credible Responders.

Researchers typically rely on self-report when investigating individuals' behavior. However, when assessing socially undesirable behaviors such as dishonesty, self-report is vulnerable to underreporting and positive response bias ("faking good"). The present study examined whether supernormality, an extreme form of positive response bias, influences self-reported lying behavior. A total of 777 participants completed an online survey assessing supernormality and different dimensions of lying behavior. Based on their scores on the Supernormality Scale-Revised (SS-R), participants were categorize

Functional literacy, reading habits, and internet use among adults with intellectual disabilities: Insights for search employment.

This study examines the functional literacy, reading habits, and internet use of young people and adults with intellectual disabilities, focusing on their role in job-seeking behaviours. Employing an online survey, 57 participants reported moderate functional literacy, driven by basic communication tasks but limited in complex competencies like financial transactions. Reading frequency was medium-low, with a preference for digital formats, while job-seeking activities were generally low and passive. Correlational analyses identified a strong relationship between higher reading frequency and ac…

The evaluation of devaluation: Deficient outcome devaluation leads to wrongly considering goal-directed actions as habits.

Habits are stimulus-driven responses that are produced independently of the current outcome value. They enable efficient actions in familiar contexts while freeing up cognitive resources. Habits are expected to influence behavior after substantial experience, whereas limited training leaves behavior under goal-directed control. This transition from goal-directed to habitual control has been documented in animal research but remains challenging to replicate in humans. Using a free-operant task, recent studies have suggested that human habits can be fully learned even after short training. This …

Improving children's sleep habits using an interactive smartphone app: Effect on children's sleep and caregivers' stress.

BACKGROUND: Sleep problems in children are strongly influenced by household lifestyle habits. Detailed advice to each family is needed to improve sleep habits. Previously, we developed an interactive sleep education app for smartphones named 'Nenne NaviⓇ' and confirmed its effectiveness in improving young children's sleep habits in one region in Japan. We aimed to verify its effectiveness in four regions in Japan where children's sleep habits may differ. METHODS: This study included 52 infants (mean: 20.58 months) and their caregivers recruited from one urban city and three regional cities in…

Dietary Habits in Early Pregnancy in a Multi-Ethnic Population: Results from the PROMOTE Cohort Study.

INTRODUCTION: The PROMOTE cohort study is a prospective pregnancy cohort study that seeks to improve the understanding of cardiometabolic risk and determinants, such as diet, during pregnancy in a multi-ethnic population. Increasing age and obesity has resulted in an increased risk of cardiometabolic complications during pregnancy, including gestational diabetes. Trials of lifestyle interventions have so far produced mixed results, partly due to a wide variation in the methods, duration, adherence and type of dietary intervention. There is a need for high quality data about dietary habits in p…

This study aimed to evaluate the association between flexibility and spinal injuries among professional golfers in South Korea. METHODS: A nationwide cross-sectional study was conducted to assess spine injuries among professional active golfers in South Korea. Data on cervical (C)-spine and thoracolumbar/lumbar (T/L)-spine…

Predicting hydric and thermic balance in caviomorph rodents through nasal turbinals morphometry: Impact of life habits.

Nasal turbinals are key osseous structures for air conditioning and olfaction in mammals, with their morphology reflecting both ecological adaptations and evolutionary history. This study evaluates how climatic gradients and locomotor strategy (subterranean or surface dwelling species) influence turbinal complexity in caviomorph rodents. Using microCT imaging, we quantified respiratory (RZ) and olfactory (OZ) turbinal morphology across eight caviomorph rodents and two outgroups from xeric, mesic, and generalist habitats, including subterranean and surface-dwelling species. Our results revealed

Dietary Habits of Individuals With Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis-Poor Fat-Soluble Vitamin Intake and Dietary Quality.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Individuals with primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC) have expressed a need for more dietary information. The aim of this study was to evaluate the dietary intake of individuals with PSC and compare it with Nordic nutrition recommendations 2023 (NNR2023). METHODS: A cross-sectional assessment of dietary intake was performed using a food-frequency questionnaire among 120 individuals with PSC from five regions across Sweden. Macro- and micronutrient intake was compared to NNR2023. Dietary quality was evaluated using an index developed by the National Food Agency in Sweden.

Gambling Habits and Attitudes among Athlete and Non-Athlete High School Students in Skåne Region, Sweden.

Previous literature has reported increased rates of gambling problems in athletes compared to non-athletes. More liberal gambling-related attitudes have been suggested as a reason, although this rarely has been researched. The present study aimed to examine gambling experience, gambling problems, and gambling-related attitudes and parental gambling experience in high school students, comparing student-athletes to students at conventional schools. This is a cross-sectional web survey study in high school students (N = 473, 53% at sports high schools, 57% male) at eleven schools in the Skåne reg
