Cross database bibliometric and knowledge mapping analysis of nanoplatform mediated tumor associated macrophage reprogramming.

BACKGROUND: Nanoplatforms are evolving from passive delivery vehicles into multifunctional engineered systems capable of remodeling the tumor microenvironment. Tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs) are important biological interfaces because of their abundance, plasticity, and roles in immune suppression and therapeutic resistance. However, the knowledge structure and developmental trajectory of nanoplatform-mediated TAM reprogramming remain insufficiently characterized. METHODS: We performed a bibliometric and knowledge-mapping analysis using independently retrieved Web of Science Core Collect

Bridging physics and biology in acupuncture: flexible multimodal bioelectronics for decoding the deqi microenvironment.

Clinical standardization of acupuncture remains limited by its reliance on empirical tactile feedback and subjective patient sensations, a physiological response collectively termed Deqi. Here, the Deqi microenvironment refers to the local, time-varying tissue domain around the needle in which mechanical deformation, microvascular perfusion, biochemical mediator release and electrophysiological activity are coupled and measurable. Conventional rigid sensing architectures cannot decode this process without disturbing it, because their stiffness can create mechanical mismatch with soft tissues,

U.S. consumers' processing of information about CRISPR-edited pork products.

The commercialization of CRISPR gene-edited pork is advancing rapidly, following the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's approval of gene-edited pigs resistant to Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome (PRRS). As these products move closer to market entry, understanding how consumers seek, process, and avoid information about them is critical for developing effective communication strategies. Guided by the Risk Information Seeking and Processing (RISP) model, this study examined factors influencing information seeking, information avoidance, and information processing related to CRISPR-

Microglial state dynamics in intracerebral hemorrhage: A systems-level integration from molecular networks to precision therapeutics.

Intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) induces secondary brain injury through a dynamic neuroimmune network rather than a single process of microglial "activation." After hemorrhage, resident microglia, infiltrating monocyte-derived macrophages, neutrophils, neurovascular-unit cells, and blood-derived injury signals, including thrombin, hemoglobin, heme, iron, DAMPs, complement, and lipid debris, jointly shape the evolving perihematomal immune microenvironment. The traditional M1/M2 polarization framework has provided historical heuristic value, but it is no longer sufficient as an organizing model fo

Plastisphere as a global hotspot for antimicrobial resistance: Systematic review and quantitative synthesis.

Plastic debris provides colonizable surfaces for microbial biofilms, the plastisphere, which is now recognized as a hotspot for antimicrobial resistance (AMR) amplification and dissemination. This PRISMA 2020-compliant synthesis covers 53 studies. Random-effects meta-analysis of 30 conjugation datasets showed enhanced horizontal gene transfer: pooled log response ratio (lnRR) = 1.93 (95% CI: 1.63-2.23), 6.9-fold (95% CI: 5.1-9.3-fold); heterogeneity was high (I2 = 85.0%; τ2 = 0.573; Q = 187.6, df = 29) and the 95% prediction interval spanned 1.5-31.3-fold. A high-dimensional benchmark of objective functions and biological resolutions for personalized metabolic phenotyping.

Genome-scale personalized metabolic modeling relies on objective functions to simulate intracellular flux phenotypes, yet the optimal formulation for characterizing complex human diseases remains unknown. We ask which combination of objective function, biological resolution, and feature-selection strategy yields the most reliable diagnostic signal, treating machine-learning architecture as a controlled factor. We benchmarked these choices across 57 600 experimental configurations spanning six diverse pathologies, from oncology to neurodegeneration. Within this benchmark, pathway-level minimum

The Adaptive Cellular State Model: A Conceptual Framework Linking Dietary Quality to Exercise-Induced Cellular Adaptation.

Exercise is a recurrent multidimensional perturbation that initiates biological adaptation, yet responses to comparable training programmes remain heterogeneous. This critical narrative Review introduces the Adaptive Cellular State (ACS) Model as a heuristic framework for examining how the biological context present before training may contribute to variation in the subsequent processing and consolidation of exercise-induced perturbations. ACS is defined as a pre-existing, dynamic and multidimensional biological configuration that may condition how exercise-induced perturbations are received,

TransUTD: Underwater cross-domain collaborative spatial-temporal transformer detector.

Research on underwater object detection has primarily focused on addressing degraded imagery. Single-frame feature refinement is inherently limited by restricted static spatial information, while joint image enhancement and detection paradigms encounter non-trivial challenges arising from irreversible artifacts and conflicting optimization objectives. In contrast, temporal information from video sequences offers a direct solution. Temporal semantic information enhances the feature representation of degraded underwater frames, whereas temporal positional cues furnish dynamic geometric associati

Functional symmetry and reproducibility of the evolutionary process.

The question on the reproducibility of evolutionary processes is primarily of fundamental importance; however, with the development of methods for modeling evolutionary processes on computer multilevel models, an answer to this question is necessary to clarify the status of the predictions obtained. Experimental obtaining of ensembles of evolutionary outcomes for subsequent statistical processing on real biological systems seems to be impracticable. At the same time, the results obtained on multilevel computer models are difficult to interpret due to their complexity and the dependence of mode

Unconventional molecular descriptors for blood-brain barrier permeability prediction: a unified model and its implications for local anesthetic design, micellar formulation, and chelation-based effect modification.

BACKGROUND: Predicting blood-brain barrier (BBB) permeability remains a central problem in central nervous system (CNS) drug design. Conventional rules such as Lipinski's rule of five and related CNS guidelines describe physicochemical boundaries but do not guarantee permeability. OBJECTIVE: We examined how a set of molecular descriptors-including membrane cross-sectional area, collision cross-section, P-glycoprotein (P-gp) net flux, desolvation cost, chameleonicity, 3D polar surface area, dipole moment/polarizability, LUMO energy, substructural synergy, and lateral bilayer pressure-can be in

Exercise-induced neuropeptidergic and neurochemical neuroadaptation in stress regulation and emotional disorders.

Exercise is increasingly recognized not only as a behavioral and preventive health intervention but also as a biologically active stimulus that may influence stress-responsive neural systems across molecular, autonomic, neurochemical, neuroimmune, and network levels. Evidence from human intervention studies, neuroimaging research, peripheral biomarker analyses, and preclinical models suggests that repeated physical activity may modulate pathways involved in emotional regulation, motivational processing, stress responsivity, interoceptive signaling, and adaptive neuroplasticity. However, the st

ReMeDy: A Flexible Statistical Framework for Region-Based Detection of DNA Methylation Dysregulation.

Region-based epigenome-wide association studies have demonstrated improved statistical power and biological interpretability compared with probe-wise analyses of DNA methylation data. However, most existing region-based methods characterize methylation dysregulation primarily through changes in mean methylation levels associated with a phenotype of interest. Substantial evidence indicates that phenotype-associated methylation alterations may also manifest through changes in methylation variability or through joint shifts in mean and variability. Despite this, no existing statistical framework

EGS-Net: a knowledge-augmented machine learning framework for predicting future high-myopia risk from longitudinal school-screening trajectories.

The rapid increase in childhood myopia highlights the need for accurate, non-invasive tools for early risk stratification in large-scale screening; however, static cross-sectional data often fail to capture dynamic refractive trajectories. In this study, we developed and validated an Expert-Guided Stacking (EGS) predictive framework using longitudinal school screening data (Autumn 2023-Autumn 2025) from Binchuan County, China. For each student, predictors were constructed only from screening records preceding the outcome-defining follow-up record, thereby preserving the original temporal predi

Map of affective and maladaptive personality vulnerabilities in emotionally immature adolescents.

Adolescence is a developmental period in which affective reactivity, heightened sensitivity to social contexts, and still-maturing self-regulatory systems can increase vulnerability to maladaptive patterns of functioning. However, adolescent screening and research often consider emotional functioning, self-evaluation, and maladaptive personality traits in isolation, which limits integrative clinical decision support. This study proposes a clinically oriented "vulnerability map" that integrates (a) emotional maturity (as affect-cognition integration and frustration tolerance), (b) an affective

Anatomy of a Setback: A Taxonomy of Clinical Trial Failures in Alzheimer's Disease and Strategic Lessons for the Future.

Although Alzheimer's disease (AD) carries the highest clinical trial failure rate of any major therapeutic area, the strategic lessons from more than two decades of negative outcomes remain insufficiently integrated into drug development practice. To date, trial failures have been examined largely in isolation, with limited attention to the recurring patterns that may connect them across therapeutic classes and disease stages. In this perspective, we propose a taxonomy that assigns AD therapeutic failures to five categories according to the primary driver of each negative outcome-namely wrong

Genetics by genetic algorithm: Defining an ideal platelet donor population to support patients with HLA-mediated alloimmune refractoriness.

BACKGROUND: Immune factors underlie approximately 20% of patients exhibiting platelet transfusion refractoriness (PTR). PTR can be mitigated by supplying HLA-A and B compatible platelets to these patients. Since 2019, Canadian Blood Services has managed a program to provide compatible platelets to alloimmunized patients. This study evaluates donor pool size and ethnic diversity options to serve Canada's population. STUDY DESIGN AND METHODS: We adapted simulation-based stem cell matching methods by generating simulated patients and matching them to existing and simulated donors using a Python

Understanding Church-Led Adolescent and Youth Sexual Reproductive Health (AYSRH) Interventions Within the Framework of Church Beliefs and Practices in South Africa: A Qualitative Study.

Background: The existing literature often oversimplifies the complex relationship between religion and Adolescent and Youth Sexual and Reproductive Health (AYSRH), particularly regarding church-based interventions. This study aimed to investigate the nature and implementation strategies of church AYSRH programmes within their belief systems to inform effective programme development. Methodology: An interpretive descriptive design was employed. Data were collected in the Vaal Triangle region of South Africa (Vanderbijlpark, Vereeniging, and Sasolburg) between August 2019 and February 2020. In-d

A hybrid multimodal machine learning model for Detecting Alzheimer's disease.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) diagnosis utilizing single modality neuroimaging data has limitations. Multimodal fusion of complementary biomarkers may improve diagnostic performance. This study proposes a multimodal machine learning framework integrating magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), positron emission tomography (PET) and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) assays for enhanced AD characterization. The model incorporates a hybrid algorithm combining enhanced Harris Hawks Optimization (HHO) algorithm referred to as ILHHO, with Kernel Extreme Learning Machine (KELM) classifier for simultaneous feature selec

Sex classification of 3D skull images using deep neural networks.

Determining the fundamental characteristics that define a face as "feminine" or "masculine" has long fascinated anatomists and plastic surgeons, particularly those involved in aesthetic and gender-affirming surgery. Previous studies in this area have relied on manual measurements, comparative anatomy, and heuristic landmark-based feature extraction. In this study, we collected retrospectively at Cedars Sinai Medical Center (CSMC) a dataset of 98 skull samples, which is the first dataset of this kind of 3D medical imaging. We then evaluated the accuracy of multiple deep learning neural network
