TransMVAN: Multi-view Aggregation Network with Transformer for Pneumonia Diagnosis.

Automated and accurate classification of pneumonia plays a crucial role in improving the performance of computer-aided diagnosis systems for chest X-ray images. Nevertheless, it is a challenging task due to the difficulty of learning the complex structure information of lung abnormality from chest X-ray images. In this paper, we propose a multi-view aggregation network with Transformer (TransMVAN) for pneumonia classification in chest X-ray images. Specifically, we propose to incorporate the knowledge from glance and focus views to enrich the feature representation of lung abnormality. Moreove

CACs Recognition of FISH Images Based on Adaptive Mean Teacher Semi-supervised Learning with Domain-Knowledge Pseudo Label.

Circulating genetically abnormal cells (CACs) serve as crucial biomarkers for lung cancer diagnosis. Detecting CACs holds great value for early diagnosis and screening of lung cancer. To aid the identification of CACs, we have incorporated deep learning algorithms into our CACs detection system, specifically developing algorithms for cell segmentation and signal point detection. However, it is noteworthy that deep learning algorithms require extensive data labeling. Consequently, this study introduces a semi-supervised learning algorithm for CACs detection. For the cell segmentation task, a co

Classification of cervical lesions based on multimodal features fusion.

Cervical cancer is a severe threat to women's health worldwide with a long cancerous cycle and a clear etiology, making early screening vital for the prevention and treatment. Based on the dataset provided by the Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital of Fudan University, a four-category classification model for cervical lesions including Normal, low-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion (LSIL), high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion (HSIL) and cancer (Ca) is developed. Considering the dataset characteristics, to fully utilize the research data and ensure the dataset size, the model inputs inc

Efficiency and impact factors of anatomical intelligence for breast and hand-held ultrasound in lesion detection.

PURPOSE: To investigate the efficiency and impact factors of anatomical intelligence for breast (AI-Breast) and hand-held ultrasound (HHUS) in lesion detection. METHODS: A total of 172 outpatient women were randomly selected, underwent AI-Breast ultrasound (Group AI) once and HHUS twice. HHUS was performed by breast imaging radiologists (Group A) and general radiologists (Group B). For the AI-Breast examination, a trained technician performed the whole-breast scan and data acquisition, while other general radiologists performed image interpretation. The examination time and lesion detection r

Automated Detection and Segmentation of Exudates for the Screening of Background Retinopathy.

Источник пометил публикацию как отозванную

Exudate, an asymptomatic yellow deposit on retina, is among the primary characteristics of background diabetic retinopathy. Background diabetic retinopathy is a retinopathy related to high blood sugar levels which slowly affects all the organs of the body. The early detection of exudates aids doctors in screening the patients suffering from background diabetic retinopathy. A computer-aided method proposed in the present work detects and then segments the exudates in the images of retina acquired using a digital fundus camera by (i) gradient method to trace the contour of exudates, (ii) marking

Framework for Indirect Spatial Calibration of the Horizontal Plane of Endoscopic Laryngeal Images.

OBJECTIVE: Calibrated horizontal-plane measurements from laryngeal images could contribute significantly to refining evidence-based practice and developing patient-specific models and precision-medicine approaches. Laser-projection endoscopes can address the need for direct calibrated measures; however, these systems are not widely available. This study presents the framework for an alternative indirect horizontal-plane calibration approach. METHOD: A spatial attribute of a common object, a distinct characteristic that is maintained across images, may be used as a scale for the normalization

Assessment of a computerized quantitative quality control tool for whole slide images of kidney biopsies.

Inconsistencies in the preparation of histology slides and whole-slide images (WSIs) may lead to challenges with subsequent image analysis and machine learning approaches for interrogating the WSI. These variabilities are especially pronounced in multicenter cohorts, where batch effects (i.e. systematic technical artifacts unrelated to biological variability) may introduce biases to machine learning algorithms. To date, manual quality control (QC) has been the de facto standard for dataset curation, but remains highly subjective and is too laborious in light of the increasing scale of tissue s

A review on computer-aided recent developments for automatic detection of diabetic retinopathy.

Diabetic retinopathy is a serious microvascular disorder that might result in loss of vision and blindness. It seriously damages the retinal blood vessels and reduces the light-sensitive inner layer of the eye. Due to the manual inspection of retinal fundus images on diabetic retinopathy to detect the morphological abnormalities in Microaneurysms (MAs), Exudates (EXs), Haemorrhages (HMs), and Inter retinal microvascular abnormalities (IRMA) is very difficult and time consuming process. In order to avoid this, the regular follow-up screening process, and early automatic Diabetic Retinopathy det

Adaptive hysteresis thresholding segmentation technique for localizing the breast masses in the curve stitching domain.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Massive work by distinguished researchers in the domain of breast segmentation has been proposed. However, no significant solution reduces the limitations of the false positive rate of cancerous cells in the breast body for probing the abnormalities of particular features. This problem is challenging in its nature and essential to be solved. It is needed to reach the optimal measurements of the breast parenchyma, the breast patchy regions of the mammogram, or the breast registration for searching of precise oddities. METHODS: In this work, we propose a novel approach

Multi-Pass Fast Watershed for Accurate Segmentation of Overlapping Cervical Cells.

The task of segmenting cell nuclei and cytoplasm in pap smear images is one of the most challenging tasks in automated cervix cytological analysis due to specifically the presence of overlapping cells. This paper introduces a multi-pass fast watershed-based method (MPFW) to segment both nucleus and cytoplasm from large cell masses of overlapping cervical cells in three watershed passes. The first pass locates the nuclei with barrier-based watershed on the gradient-based edge map of a pre-processed image. The next pass segments the isolated, touching, and partially overlapping cells with a wate

Automatic segmentation of pigment deposits in retinal fundus images of Retinitis Pigmentosa.

Retinitis Pigmentosa is an eye disease that presents with a slow loss of vision and then evolves until blindness results. The automatic detection of the early signs of retinitis pigmentosa acts as a great support to ophthalmologists in the diagnosis and monitoring of the disease in order to slow down the degenerative process. A large body of literature is devoted to the analysis of Retinitis Pigmentosa. However, all the existing approaches work on Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) data, while hardly any attempts have been made working on fundus images. Fundus image analysis is a suitable tool

Computer-Assisted Digital Image Analysis of Plus Disease in Retinopathy of Prematurity.

The objective of this study is to review the current state and role of computer-assisted analysis in diagnosis of plus disease in retinopathy of prematurity. Diagnosis and documentation of retinopathy of prematurity are increasingly being supplemented by digital imaging. The incorporation of computer-aided techniques has the potential to add valuable information and standardization regarding the presence of plus disease, an important criterion in deciding the necessity of treatment of vision-threatening retinopathy of prematurity. A review of literature found that several techniques have been

Glaucoma detection using novel optic disc localization, hybrid feature set and classification techniques.

Glaucoma is a chronic and irreversible neuro-degenerative disease in which the neuro-retinal nerve that connects the eye to the brain (optic nerve) is progressively damaged and patients suffer from vision loss and blindness. The timely detection and treatment of glaucoma is very crucial to save patient's vision. Computer aided diagnostic systems are used for automated detection of glaucoma that calculate cup to disc ratio from colored retinal images. In this article, we present a novel method for early and accurate detection of glaucoma. The proposed system consists of preprocessing, optic dis

Automatic classification of intracardiac tumor and thrombi in echocardiography based on sparse representation.

Identification of intracardiac masses in echocardiograms is one important task in cardiac disease diagnosis. To improve diagnosis accuracy, a novel fully automatic classification method based on the sparse representation is proposed to distinguish intracardiac tumor and thrombi in echocardiography. First, a region of interest is cropped to define the mass area. Then, a unique globally denoising method is employed to remove the speckle and preserve the anatomical structure. Subsequently, the contour of the mass and its connected atrial wall are described by the K-singular value decomposition an

Fasciculation and defasciculation of neurite bundles on micropatterned substrates.

We describe experiments of fasciculation, i.e., bundling, of chick sensory neurites on 2D striped substrates. By Fourier decomposition, we separate left-going and right-going neurite components from in vitro images, and we find first that neurite bundles orient toward preferred angles with respect to the stripe direction, and second that in vitro bundles travel in leftward and rightward directions nearly uninterrupted by crossings of bundles traveling in the opposing direction. We explore mechanisms that lead to these behaviors, and summarize implications for future models for neurite outgrowt

Assessment of arterial characteristics in human atherosclerosis by extracting optical properties from polarization-sensitive optical coherence tomography.

UNLABELLED: Individuals with type 1 diabetes (T1D) or permanent neonatal diabetes (PND) due to an INS gene mutation (INS-PND) have a marked reduction in pancreas volume by MRI compared with control individuals with no diabetes (ND). One possible explanation for this is loss of islet-acinar insulin signaling in these forms of severe insulin deficiency. To test the hypothesis that insulin deficiency drives the loss of pancreas volume in diabetes, we used a standardized and validated MRI protocol to measure pancreas volumes in individuals with various forms of monogenic diabetes, including maturi
