The aim of this prospective study was to evaluate the safety and efficacy of female laparoscopic laser tubal sterilisation. A total of 265 women underwent laparoscopic laser sterilisation as a day-case procedure at Princess Royal University Hospital in Kent between 1996 and 2001. The fallopian tube was divided at the isthmic portion using a neodymium-yttrium aluminium garnet (Nd:YAG) laser probe. Large placental chorioangiomas are rare complications in pregnancy. We present a case of a placental chorioangioma, complicated by polyhydramnios, in which obliteration of its blood supply using diode laser coagulation at 25 weeks of gestation was followed by an uneventful pregnancy and delivery of a healthy baby with a normal follow-up at the age of 9 months. Laser coagulation of the feeding vessels seems to be an effective treatment for chorioangiomas when the blood supply is superficial and the feeding vessels are small in diameter.

BACKGROUND: Xanthelasma palpebrarum is a benign skin disorder of unknown etiology appearing as one or multiple yellowish plaques around the eyelids. Hyperlipidemia, thyroid dysfunction, and diabetes mellitus are possible pathogenetic triggers. Removal of xanthelasma is desired for aesthetic reasons. While there are many treatment options, search continue for newer methods with less scarring and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: We employed for the first time KTP laser (532 nm) for the treatment of 14 patients with xanthelasma palpebrarum on 33 eyelids.

OBJECTIVE: To compare contact diode laser (CDL) tonsillectomy to monopolar cautery (MPC) with regard to pain and other morbidity during recovery.
STUDY DESIGN AND SETTING: Single-blind, randomized trial in a tertiary-care pediatric hospital. Tonsillectomy was performed by CDL in 30 children and by MPC in 28. Parents completed a daily questionnaire for 10 days after surgery.
