Here, we present a 45-year-old male patient who had right leg fracture in several pieces, arterial ischemia, multiple muscle, tendon losses and degloving injury on the distal thigh and knee undergoing emergency surgery due to a high-energy traffic accident and explain our experience with reconstruction of below knee stump using free plantar fillet flap in order to prevent above knee amputation in a patient with vascular injuries, multi-part fractures and soft tissue losses in the lower extremity.

A 20-year-old male collegiate soccer goalkeeper presented to an athletic trainer during the season complaining of right (dominant kicking leg) groin pain. The athletic trainer identified a mass and hematoma and suspected myositis ossificans. The patient was referred to the team physician, who ordered radiographs and magnetic resonance imaging to confirm the diagnosis and rule out other injuries. We present a case of a 45-year-old woman with a right proximal tibiofibular dislocation she sustained after a fall during roller skating. Anteroposterior and lateral radiographs confirmed the diagnosis; there were no other injuries. The dislocation was reduced by direct manipulation after intra-articular infiltration, in our emergency department. The patient was treated with a long, non-weight bearing leg cast for 1 week. After 4 weeks, she had no pain and a full range of motion of the knee.

BACKGROUND: Post-traumatic lymphedema (PTL) is an underrecognized complication of severe limb trauma and is characterized by persistent limb swelling. Ascending cellulitis of the leg is a common emergency. An audit was conducted in two district general hospitals to determine how it is managed and the long-term morbidity, and to formulate a treatment strategy.
