A 21-year-old patient presented with a 3-day history of shortness of breath, productive cough, fatigue, fevers and night sweats, associated with right upper quadrant pain. He had an appendicectomy 3 months previously. The CT images showed a right subphrenic collection, which was indenting the right lobe of the liver, with an appendicolith in the middle. He underwent laparoscopic surgery where the abscess was drained and the appendicolith was retrieved. The patient had an uncomplicated postoperative period and was discharged soon afterwards. We report on a 9-year-old boy with atypical McCune Albright syndrome who presented with polyostotic fibrous dysplasia, unilateral testicular enlargement without signs of sexual precocity, and bilateral testicular microlithiasis on sonography. This is the first report of a patient with an atypical form of MAS presenting with unilateral testicular enlargement not associated with sexual precocity, and with testicular microlithiasis.

Although tonsilloliths are reported to be fairly common, florid cases casting distinct radiopaque shadows on panoramic radiographs are not often reported. This report illustrates such a case as an incidental finding in an asymptomatic 38-year-old female dental patient. Panoramic radiography revealed distinct radiopaque shadows over the ascending rami of the mandible bilaterally. These radiopacities were localized to the palatine tonsils by computerized tomographic inspection. Tonsillectomy was performed and tonsillolithiasis was confirmed by histopathologic examination.

We present two French cases of amyloid-associated (AA) amyloidosis secondary to chronic infections. Patient 1, a 51-year-old heroin addict, was hospitalised for chest pain and anasarca. During hospitalisation, a nephrotic syndrome with an inflammatory condition was discovered along with a chronic skin ulcer on his arm. A group of 44 patients, aged from 10 months to 14 years, underwent surgery for urinary calculi over a 7-year period (1982-1989). Eleven patients had bilateral or multiple calculi (total number of stones = 55, 20 of which were staghorn). Metabolic disorders (n = 25) and Proteus urinary infection (n = 15) were the 2 factors most often associated with lithiasis. Of the 55 stones, 51 were removed by open surgery.
