Variation between natural head orientation and Frankfort horizontal planes in orthognathic surgery patients: 187 consecutive cases.

The purpose of this study was to assess the relationship between the Frankfort horizontal (FH) and natural head orientation (NHO), their correlation between patients' malocclusion, and the impact of counterclockwise rotation (CCW) on the FH-NHO angle variation after orthognathic surgery. An evaluation of 187 consecutive patients was performed at the Maxillofacial Institute (Teknon Medical Center, Barcelona). FH-NHO° was measured pre- and postoperatively at 1 and 12 months, after three-dimensional (3D) superimposition using a software (Dolphin®). Patients were classified as follows: 3.2%, 48.7%

Otitis media with effusion and dental occlusion: is there any relationship?

AIM: Auditory tube dysfunction is one of the aetiological causes of otitis media. Studies suggest a correlation between otitis media with effusion and dental malocclusion. Our goal was to determine any correlation between dental malocclusion and otitis media with effusion in children with chronic upper airway obstruction due to tonsil and adenoid enlargement. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This prospective study evaluated 52 children with otitis media with effusion and 48 without, aged 4.2 to 10.8 years. A questionnaire was answered by the parents about breast or bottle-feeding and bad oral habits. M

Comparison of reliability of lateral cephalogram and computed tomography for assessment of airway space.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: The oropharyngeal (OP) and nasopharyngeal structures seems to play roles in the development of the dentofacial complex. Soft palate as a part of nasopharyngeal and OP apparatus has an important role in phonation, deglutition and respiration. The aim of this study was to find whether any correlation exists between the three types of malocclusion and airway space using lateral cephalogram and computed tomography (CT) and to compare its reliability. To obtain important information on the morphology of the soft palate on lateral cephalogram and to determine its etiopathogenesi

Association between Clark twin block appliance treatment and social and emotional wellness in children with malocclusion - a cohort study.

INTRODUCTION: Class II malocclusion is common among adolescents and can negatively affect aesthetics, self-esteem, and social interactions. Myofunctional appliances like the Clark twin block aid in correcting jaw discrepancies during growth. Traditional clinical assessments often overlook psychosocial outcomes, which can be captured through patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) such as the Child Perception Questionnaire (CPQ). This study evaluates the association between Clark twin block appliance therapy and social and emotional wellness in children, addressing a gap in patient-centered o

Active vertical control with skeletal anchorage for optimizing facial profile in a severe Class II high-angle protrusion case.

This case report describes the nonsurgical management of a patient with a Class II skeletal pattern, retrognathic mandible, steep mandibular angle, maxillary vertical excess, and lip incompetence. The treatment approach involved orthodontic mechanics supported with skeletal anchorage to achieve maximal intrusion and retraction of the dentition. A novel elastic hanging rack appliance, supported by midpalatal miniscrews, was used. A maximal anchorage setup for active vertical control on both arches was illustrated. Significant improvement in the facial profile was achieved with optimal occlusion
