Effectiveness of physical rehabilitation in young volleyball players following meniscus suture repair via knee arthroscopy for enhancing return-to-sport (RTS).

The study evaluated the effectiveness of different rehabilitation methods for young volleyball players aged 15-20 following knee arthroscopy for internal meniscus repair. The study, conducted in Moscow from March to September 2025, included 20 participants who were divided into two groups: one group received standard physiotherapy and exercise (Group A), and the other group received the same treatment plus massage therapy (Group B). Assessments were conducted three to four weeks post-surgery, focusing on knee flexion, extension, and pain levels measured using the Numerical Rating Scale (NRS). …

Pediatric lateral Busch-Hoffa fracture associated with lateral meniscus tear and incarcerated popliteus tendon: systematic review of literature and case report.

INTRODUCTION: Busch-Hoffa fractures are rare, particularly in the pediatric population, with limited available literature. As it is an inherently unstable fracture and as the posterior femoral condyle is prone to non-union, correct and adequate treatment of the fracture is critical but challenging. OBJECTIVE: This study aims to (1) systematically review the literature on pediatric Busch-Hoffa fractures, and (2) present a rare case of a lateral Busch-Hoffa fracture with a bucket-handle lateral meniscus tear and popliteus tendon incarceration in a pediatric patient. METHODS: A systematic revie…

Concomitant Medial and Lateral Meniscus Posterior Horn Root Repair With Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction Using Triangular Configuration of Transtibial Tunnel Technique.

The simultaneous presence of posterior horn root tears in both the medial and lateral menisci along with an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) rupture is uncommon. Literature is scarce that addresses the concurrent repair of medial and lateral meniscus root tears alongside ACL reconstruction. We discuss the management of concomitant medial meniscus posterior horn root tear, lateral meniscus posterior horn root tear, and ACL tear. Challenges may arise, including difficulty in accessing the medial meniscal root tear, confusion regarding the sequence of repair, and the risk of tunnel coalition with…

Biomechanical Performance of Transtibial Pull-Out Posterior Horn Medial Meniscus Root Repair Is Improved With Knotless Adjustable Suture Anchor-Based Fixation.

BACKGROUND: While posterior medial meniscus root (PMMR) techniques have evolved, there remains a need to both optimize repair strength and improve resistance to cyclic loading. HYPOTHESIS: Adjustable tensioning would lead to higher initial repair strength and reduce displacement with cyclic loading compared with previously described transtibial pull-out repair (TPOR) fixation techniques. STUDY DESIGN: Controlled laboratory study. METHODS: A total of 56 porcine medial menisci were used. Eight intact specimens served as a control for the native meniscus. For the others, PMMR tears were create…

Decay-Accelerating Factor Differentially Associates With Complement-Mediated Damage in Synovium After Meniscus Tear as Compared to Anterior Cruciate Ligament Injury.

We have reported that anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury leads to the differential dysregulation of the complement system in the synovium as compared to meniscus tear (MT) and proposed this as a mechanism for a greater post-injury prevalence of post traumatic osteoarthritis (PTOA). To explore additional roles of complement proteins and regulators, we determined the presence of decay-accelerating factor (DAF), C5b, and membrane attack complexes (MACs, C5b-9) in discarded surgical synovial tissue (DSST) collected during arthroscopic ACL reconstructive surgery, MT-related meniscectomy, osteo…

Relationship between medial meniscus extrusion and damage to medial stabilizers: Should extrusion be considered significant only when more than 3 mm?

BACKGROUND: This study was conducted with patients with anterior and medial extrusion of the medial meniscus (MM-AE, MM-ME) to investigate the relationship of the amount of extrusion with damage to the meniscus, meniscofemoral ligament (MFL), meniscotibial ligament (MTL), presence of effusion, osteoarthritis (OA) grade and other medial stablizers. A cut-off value for significant MM-ME was also suggested. METHODS: All patients aged 18 and above who had measurable MM extrusion on knee MRI were included. Patients with acute injury detected on knee MRI and any disease that could disrupt the anato…

Concomitant Lateral Meniscus Tear is Associated with Residual Rotatory Knee Instability 1 Year after Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction: Case-cohort Study.

Lateral meniscus tear (LMT) accompanied by anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries has been reported to provoke rotatory instability of the affected knee joint. Unfortunately, these previous papers did not determine whether LMT-derived rotatory knee instability is residual because only preoperative or time zero data exists. This study aimed to longitudinally investigate how the prevalence of comorbid LMT is associated with residual rotatory knee instability (RKI) 1 year after ACL reconstruction (ACLR). A total of 327 patients who underwent double-bundle ACLR (average age: 23.4 years, body ma…

Knee laxity in anterolateral complex injuries versus lateral meniscus posterior horn injuries in anterior cruciate ligament deficient knees: A cadaveric study.

BACKGROUND: In the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injured knee, additional injury of the anterolateral ligament (ALL) and capsule may increase the pathologic laxity. The purpose of this study was to compare the effects of the anterolateral complex (ALC) injury in ACL injured knee with the effects of lateral meniscus posterior horn (LMPH) meniscectomy. METHODS: Ten fresh-frozen cadaveric knees were used. After testing the (1) intact knees and (2) ACL sectioned knees (ACL-), two groups were established: an (3) ALC sectioning group (n = 5), which underwent additional ALC sectioning (ACL-/ALC-)…

Ketogenic diet induces metabolic remodeling and alters myogenic markers in skeletal muscle of obese male mice subjected to medial meniscus destabilization.

Osteoarthritis (OA) is strongly associated with obesity, and weight reduction is recommended to reduce joint loading and improve symptoms. However, the effects of ketogenic diet (KD)-induced weight loss on skeletal muscle under combined metabolic and biomechanical stress remain poorly understood. We investigated skeletal muscle adaptation to KD in a mouse model that combined obesity with knee joint injury. Male C57BL/6J mice were rendered obese by high-fat diet feeding and subjected to destabilization of the medial meniscus. Following surgery, animals remained on high-fat diet (HFD) or were sw…
