Influence of sleep difficulty on post-traumatic stress symptoms among frontline medical staff during COVID-19 pandemic in China.

Being a nurse was demonstrated to be a risk factor for post-traumatic stress symptoms (PTS) and insomnia among frontline staff during COVID-19 pandemic. The unidirectional relationship between insomnia and PTS highly suggested that insomnia could mediate the increasing risk of PTS among frontline nurses. However, no study had tried to clarify this mediation effect of insomnia during COVID-19 pandemic. This study aimed to investigate prevalence of insomnia and PTS among frontline doctors and nurses and to clarify the relationship between career (doctor/nurses), insomnia and PTS. A total of 211

Insuring Value, Not Loss: Nursing Care, Accreditation, and Care-Pathway Performance in the Pricing of Private Health Insurance in Europe.

Europe has entered a new era of health technology assessment. Clinical value is now appraised jointly across member states. Economic evaluation remains national. Cost-effectiveness, weighed in cost per quality-adjusted life year, is still decided country by country. Value is therefore appraised for what is used. It is not appraised for how well the care around it is delivered. Private health insurers face a parallel gap. The premiums they set rest largely on the characteristics of the insured and on claims history. They seldom reflect the quality of the care that members will actually receive.

Can Vitality and Mental Health Influence Upper Extremity Pain? A Prospective Cohort Study of 1185 Female Hospital Nurses.

Musculoskeletal disorders of the upper extremity are among the most common occupational problems affecting nurses. The aim of this study was to analyze the prospective association between vitality and mental health and increased upper extremity pain intensity in female hospital nurses during a 1-year follow-up. A prospective cohort of 1185 female nurses from 19 hospitals in Denmark was conducted using baseline and 12-month follow-up questionnaires to identify potential associations between levels of vitality and mental health (SF-36 subscales) with pain intensity (0-10 scale) in the shoulder,

Which Theoretical Models or Frameworks Are Used to Understand Trauma-Informed Care in Mental Health Settings? A Scoping Review.

This scoping review examines and synthesizes the theoretical foundations underpinning trauma-informed care (TIC) in mental health settings. A systematic search of CINAHL, Scopus, Web of Science, and PubMed yielded 1278 records, of which 23 peer-reviewed studies published between 2010 and 2025 met the inclusion criteria. Reporting followed the PRISMA-ScR (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses extension for Scoping Reviews) checklist and explanation. Seven overarching theoretical domains were identified: neurobiological and psychophysiological foundations, psychologi

The healthy learner model for student chronic condition management--part I.

A significant number of children have chronic health conditions that interfere with normal activities, including school attendance and active participation in the learning process. Management of students' chronic conditions is complex and requires an integrated system. Models to improve chronic disease management have been developed for the medical system and public health. Programs that address specific chronic disease management or coordinate school health services have been implemented in schools. Lacking is a comprehensive, integrated model that links schools, students, parents, health car

Nurses' Visual Attention During Initial Observation of Patients With Suspected Pneumonia: An Observational Pupillometry Study.

AIM: Observation requires selective attention to visual information acquired through gaze. Measuring pupil diameter, an index of attention, we examined skilled and novice nurses during the initial assessment of a patient urgently admitted with suspected community-acquired pneumonia. METHODS: This observational study was conducted in a simulated environment. Participants comprised skilled nurses with advanced practice training and novice nurses. During a 120-s initial assessment of a mock patient with suspected community-acquired pneumonia, participants wore eye-tracking equipment. Pupil diame

Developing person-centred care in hospices through the voice and leadership of nursing: lessons from the United Kingdom.

INTRODUCTION: Nursing leadership and the voice of nurses are crucial for developing person-centred care in hospices. Concerns have been raised that, as palliative care has evolved from its original vision and become more integrated into the mainstream healthcare system, it has increasingly become medicalised. This paper presents an emancipatory practice development programme aimed at enhancing the visibility and voice of nursing and nurse leadership to improve person-centred care in hospices across the United Kingdom. METHODS: The project was a 10-month collaborative education programme for n

Impact of Combined Interventions and Early Home Care Activation on 30-Day Hospital Readmissions: A Retrospective Observational Study.

Background and Objectives: Thirty-day hospital readmissions are a major clinical and economic challenge, particularly among frail older patients. Integrated protected discharge models, coordinated by nurse case managers and including multidimensional hospital-to-community interventions, may improve continuity of care and reduce inappropriate readmissions. Materials and Methods: We conducted a retrospective observational study on 200 consecutive patients aged ≥65 years, discharged between January and December 2024 from a public hospital in Italy. Frailty was assessed using BRASS scores (≥11), A

Association Between Discharge Destination and Excess Length of Stay in Heart Failure-Related Admissions: A Retrospective Single-Centre Study.

RATIONALE: Hospital readmissions and excess inpatient length of stay remain important clinical and organisational concerns in cardiovascular care. Although discharge destination has been linked to postacute utilisation and spending, less is known about whether discharge destination is associated with inpatient days exceeding diagnosis-related expected stay. AIMS AND OBJECTIVES: This study examined whether discharge destination was associated with excess length of stay above diagnosis-related expected stay among heart failure-related admissions and whether those additional inpatient days were

Measurement Properties of the Polish Nurse-Nurse Collaboration Scale: A Psychometric Study.

Background and Purpose: Reliable measurement of nurse-nurse collaboration requires psychometrically sound instruments with stable factor structures across cultural contexts. Previous cross-cultural studies of the Nurse-Nurse Collaboration Scale (NNCS) suggest variability in its dimensional structure. This study aimed to evaluate the psychometric properties of the Polish version of the NNCS (NNCS-Pl). Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among 312 professionally active nurses in Poland. The NNCS was translated and culturally adapted following established guidelines. Construct validity

[Mutual guiding and following of movement - The interaction process in mobilisation based on the example of kinaesthetics: A qualitative study].

Background: Mobility impairment is often seen as a reason for needing long-term care. Thus, promoting mobility becomes increasingly significant in nursing homes. The kinaesthetic approach offers a way to support nursing home residents in using their own resources to maintain or improve their mobility. Aim: The present study intends to identify the characteristics of the interaction between nursing home residents with impaired mobility and kinaesthetic trainers during mobilisation. Methods: This secondary analysis comprises nine video sequences interpreted according to Grounded Theory-principle

Physical abuse of older adults in nursing homes: a random sample survey of adults with an elderly family member in a nursing home.

Few empirical studies have focused on elder abuse in nursing home settings. The present study investigated the prevalence and risk factors of staff physical abuse among elderly individuals receiving nursing home care in Michigan. A random sample of 452 adults with elderly relatives, older than 65 years, and in nursing home care completed a telephone survey regarding elder abuse and neglect experienced by this elder family member in the care setting. Some 24.3% of respondents reported at least one incident of physical abuse by nursing home staff. A logistic regression model was used to estimate

Using a site visit to a contaminated location as a focus for environmental health education for academic and public health nurses.

We describe a conference initiative that is distinguished by the use of a "community case study" to increase the knowledge and skills of nursing faculty and public health nurses in environmental health and to provide networking support to facilitate infusion of environmental health into nursing curricula and public health nursing practice. The Institute of Medicine's (1995) general environmental health competencies for nurses provided the conference framework. Woburn, Massachusetts, a Superfund site, served as the community case study to illustrate a complex environmental health problem. Over

The effect of hospital-based health promotion on the health practices of full-time hospital nurses: a cross-sectional study.

Many studies have reported positive contributions of health promotion on the health behavior of nursing staff working in hospitals, including the maintenance of a regular healthy diet, engagement in physical activity, performance of routine screening practices, and participation in a health examination. Despite being considered a role model for healthy lifestyles, little is known about the effect of health-promoting hospital settings on nursing staff. The aim of this study was to perform a nationwide, hospital-based, cross-sectional, survey comparing health practices between full-time nurses o

Factors Associated with Working During the COVID-19 Pandemic and Intent to Stay at Current Nursing Position.

The pandemic exacerbated job stress and burnout among nurses, increasing turnover and intentions to leave, in a workforce struggling with severe shortages. Shortages and turnover are associated with decreased quality of care, poor nurse health, and increased costs. This article reports the findings of a study that sought to identify characteristics of the job, work environment, and psychosocial health outcomes that may predict nurses' intent to stay at their current nursing position within the next year. Utilizing a cross-sectional design, we electronically surveyed working nurses (n = 629) du
