Coproducing a conceptual understanding of unmet palliative care needs: stakeholder workshops using modified nominal group technique.

BACKGROUND: Despite growing recognition of the importance of identifying unmet needs in palliative care, there remains no clear, operational definition of what constitutes unmet palliative care needs. This gap hinders service planning, policy development and equitable access to care. We aimed to explore priorities for understanding and measuring unmet palliative care needs with stakeholders, including people with lived and professional experience. METHODS: Three online workshops using a modified nominal group technique with people with lived experience of life-limiting illness (as patients or

Growing Up with a Mentally Ill Parent: Identifying Long-Term Consequences and Needs for Personalized Mental Health Care in Adulthood.

Children of Parents with a Mental Illness (COPMI) are at elevated risk of developing mental and physical disorders in adulthood. However, there is a knowledge gap regarding the mental healthcare needs of adults with a COPMI background. This study identified long-term psychological and physical consequences of a COPMI background and intervention needs. Methods involved two rounds of assessment, using a mixed quantitative and qualitative approach with explorative thematic analysis. Participants were approached via a national nonprofit organization that supports family members and significant oth

Understanding the Unmet Needs of People Living with Type 2 Diabetes in Self-Managing Their Condition.

Background/Objectives: Type 2 diabetes (T2D) prevalence is rising worldwide. Despite numerous efforts to address the condition, many initiatives fall short due to limited consumer engagement. Involving people with lived experience in healthcare design is increasingly recognized as an effective strategy for improving diabetes management. Aim: To understand the unmet needs of people with T2D in self-managing their condition through the establishment of a Consumer Reference Group (CRG). Methods: The CRG was established using a standardized approach advised by Monash Partners, with specific terms

Unmet needs of symptom management and associated factors among the HIV-positive population in Shanghai, China: A cross-sectional study.

BACKGROUND: People living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) are a vulnerable group who experience multiple physiological and psychological symptoms. A better understanding of unmet symptom management needs will allow researchers to design interventions that are more reflective of deficits in care and more effective at improving patient care. Few studies have focused on unmet needs for symptom management in PLWHA particularly in China. Factors influencing Chinese PLWHA symptom management needs are rarely discussed. AIM: The purpose of this study was to investigate the unmet needs for symptom management of

Qualitative interview study of strategies to support healthcare personnel mental health through an occupational health lens.

BACKGROUND: Employee Occupational Health ('occupational health') clinicians have expansive perspectives of the experience of healthcare personnel. Integrating mental health into the purview of occupational health is a newer approach that could combat historical limitations of healthcare personnel mental health programmes, which have been isolated and underused. OBJECTIVE: We aimed to document innovation and opportunities for supporting healthcare personnel mental health through occupational health clinicians. This work was part of a national qualitative needs assessment of employee occupation…

A Clinical Pathway to Standardize Care of Children With Delirium in Pediatric Inpatient Settings.

Pediatric delirium is an important comorbidity of medical illness in inpatient pediatric care that has lacked a consistent approach for detection and management. A clinical pathway (CP) was developed to address this need. Pediatric delirium contributes significantly to morbidity, mortality, and costs of inpatient care of medically ill children and adolescents. Screening for delirium in hospital settings with validated tools is feasible and effective in reducing delirium and improving outcomes; however, multidisciplinary coordination is required for implementation. The workgroup, composed of in

Basal insulin therapy: Unmet medical needs in Asia and the new insulin glargine in diabetes treatment.

Diabetes remains a global epidemic and a tremendous health challenge, especially in the Asian population. Dramatic increases in the prevalence of diabetes across different countries or areas in Asia have been reported in recent epidemiological studies. Although clinical guidelines have strengthened appropriate antihyperglycemic medications and lifestyle modifications for optimal diabetes management, inadequate glycemic control still occurs in many patients with an increased risk of developing microvascular and macrovascular complications. Insulin administration is the main therapy for diabetes

Results of an Expert Consensus Survey on the Treatment of Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension With Oral Prostacyclin Pathway Agents.

BACKGROUND: Treatment of pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) has evolved substantially over the past two decades and varies according to etiology, functional class (FC), hemodynamic parameters, and other clinical factors. Current guidelines do not provide definitive recommendations regarding the use of oral prostacyclin pathway agents (PPAs) in PAH. To provide guidance on the use of these agents, an expert panel was convened to develop consensus statements for the initiation of oral PPAs in adults with PAH. METHODS: A systematic literature search was conducted using MEDLINE. The established

Considering employee needs during a catastrophe requires innovative recovery plans: Why traditional workplace recovery solutions are outdated.

Mobile technology has changed the way we live and operate, with co-working, flexible spaces and home office solutions that offer us the freedom to work when and where we choose. However, when disaster strikes the workplace, people are often the last to be considered in the recovery process. This paper examines strategies for businesses and their employees to continue working after a disaster strikes. It explores the trends in the market, the benefits and drawbacks of different approaches and the attitudes of continuity experts and small business owners who have the responsibility to ensure tha

Whole community planning: building resiliency at the local level.

Business continuity planning often looks to preserving internal operations and focuses on customer retention as a marker for a successful outcome after a disaster. Building more resilient continuity plans also means planning for the survival of the community at large. As the national emphasis in the USA on 'whole community planning' becomes prominent guidance for emergency management planning, this paper examines the implications for businesses as members of the whole community and how they can increase their involvement in the whole community process. The paper will also discuss the impedimen

Evidence on mpox clade Ia and clade Ib: A rapid research needs appraisal.

OBJECTIVES: The emergence of a new mpox sub-clade Ib and changes in transmission pattern are of concern. To inform strategies to protect populations and improve outcomes, we implemented a rapid research needs appraisal (RRNA) to identify existing evidence on mpox clade I. METHODS: We searched Embase, MEDLINE, Scopus, and grey literature to 11 February 2025 for human mpox clade I studies. RESULTS: Of 79 studies identified, 2.5% (2/79) were interventional, 97.4% (77/79) observational, presenting data on 59,183 mpox cases. Human Needs in Relation to Home Attachment: Towards a Theoretical Framework to Architectural Affordances in Temporary Accommodation to Aid Designers.

The current and rising provision of temporary accommodation in the UK does not always meet the needs of residents with one such contributing factor being the often-poor atmospheric qualities within these environments. Temporary accommodation is a broad term for housing provided for those who have previously been homeless, covering different variations of support or tenancy length. Our research synthesises transdisciplinary literature to create a theoretical framework which can be used to inform the design of suitable temporary accommodation by connecting psychological theories in a novel way t
