Hemolytic uremic syndrome is a complex disease that impacts multiple body systems. Knowledge gained from cases has increased understanding of etiologic factors, presenting symptoms, diagnostic laboratory findings, and the disease process. In rare cases, severe neurological symptoms are evident. This 20-year-old woman presented with bloody diarrhea that progressed quickly to respiratory distress requiring intubation and to the development of status epilepticus, controlled only by a barbiturate coma. Ongoing nursing care in the critical care unit was vital in preventing complications and promoti

BACKGROUND: With China's aging population and increasing prevalence of chronic diseases, the Internet+Nursing Service has emerged as a new care model, enabling registered nurses from medical institutions to provide home-based care through a web-based application and offline service model. This care model is particularly beneficial for vulnerable populations, such as patients with dysphagia, who face significant risks like malnutrition and aspiration pneumonia. Nurses play a critical role in delivering these services, yet their experiences, challenges, and support needs remain underexplored. Un

Nurses play a key role in medication review. This study explores nursing students' awareness and understanding of concepts (pharmacology, medication review, polypharmacy, and deprescribing) and gives insight into their preparedness to engage with these in clinical settings. This cross-sectional survey was conducted at a London higher education institution. The sample comprised 127 third-year undergraduate adult and paediatric nursing students. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire, which included free-text items to capture qualitative insights. Quantitative data were analyzed us

Although the Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) is widely used in nursing education as a summative assessment of students' learning and clinical competence, less attention has been given to students' experience of the examination process. The aim of this study is to explore first-year nursing students' experiences with the OSCE. Data were collected through eight focus group interviews with first-year students between March and June 2025 and analyzed using qualitative content analysis. The analysis resulted in three main categories: "Before the OSCE - The Calm before the Storm," "

Emotional competence, the ability to manage interpersonal relationships through understanding one's and others' emotions, encompasses two dimensions: cognitive and behavioral. In nursing practice, the combination of these dimensions allows for better performance in highly complex clinical situations. Nursing education does not always emphasize these competences. This pilot study explored the potential of an escape room, a Serious Games (SGs) prototype with virtual reality (VR), as a pedagogical strategy for eliciting emotions in a safe learning environment. Participants' immersion in the game

The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of inactivation of ventral tegmental area (VTA) projection neurons, while sparing fibers of passage, on maternal behavior in rats. Because VTA neurons contain GABA-A and GABA-B receptors, the effects of muscimol or baclofen were studied. Although bilateral injections of either drug into the VTA disrupted maternal behavior, it is likely that they did so through different underlying mechanisms. Muscimol disrupted both retrieval of pups and nursing behavior, while causing stereotyped motor activity. Baclofen disrupted retrieval behavior without

BACKGROUND: Nurses caring for the large numbers of people with leg ulceration play a key role in promoting quality in health via their diagnostic and treatment clinical judgements. In the UK, audit evidence suggests that the quality of these judgements is often sub optimal. Misdiagnosis and incorrect treatment choices are likely to affect healing rates, patients' quality of life, patient safety and healthcare costs.
OBJECTIVES: To explore the diagnostic judgements and treatment choices of UK community nurses managing venous leg ulceration.
DESIGN: A judgement analysis based on Brunswik's psy

BACKGROUND: Clinical decision support (CDS) tools embedded in electronic health records in the form of integrated clinical prediction rules provide a potentially effective intervention to reduce inappropriate antibiotic prescribing for acute respiratory infections. However, their effectiveness has been limited by workflow barriers and low adoption by health care providers. Nurses are well positioned to implement evidence-based protocols using CDS tools. In a multicenter randomized controlled trial, a nurse-led implementation strategy for acute respiratory infection integrated clinical predicti
