Use of Perirectal Hyaluronic Acid Spacer Prior to Radiotherapy in a Pediatric Patient With Bladder Rhabdomyosarcoma: A Case Report.

Rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS) treatment involves surgery, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy. A radioprotective space between the bladder/prostate and rectum reduces postradiation complications, as reported in adult patients. Describe pediatric preradiotherapy perirectal hyaluronic acid (HA) spacer injection for bladder/prostate RMS. We present a case of a 17-month-old male with bladder/prostate RMS. Before radiotherapy, an HA spacer was injected peri-rectally. Under general anesthesia, a transrectal ultrasound was positioned and 1mL of HA spacer was injected into the perirectal space. No complications w

Decidual cast: a rare cause of genital tract obstruction.

Decidual cast is a little-known entity characterized by sloughing of the endometrium in several large pieces or in one cylindrical or membranous piece retaining the shape of the uterine cavity. Accounts of the diagnosis are sporadic and have not previously appeared in the pediatric imaging literature. We describe a case of a post-menarchal adolescent girl presenting with abnormal uterine bleeding, severe dysmenorrhea, and imaging features of genital tract obstruction, the cause of which was found to be a large decidual cast during examination under anesthesia. While rare, awareness of this phe

Is extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy in pediatrics a safe procedure?

Removal of urinary calculi is an essential element in the successful treatment of patients with urinary stone disease. The new generation of lithotriptors allows the treatment without the need for general anesthesia. The patients, often outpatients, have a faster discharge from the hospital with a reduction of hospitalization time and operating costs. Shock wave lithotripsy (SWL) is currently considered a safe technique for treatment of pediatric urinary lithiasias, with a low percentage of complications and subsequent surgical retreatments. But can we define SWL as a safe procedure in pediatr

Our Ultrasound Guided Brachial Plexus Block Experiences for Upper Extremity Surgeries in Pediatric Patients.

OBJECTIVES: Brachial plexus block is the most effective analgesia and anesthesia procedure for the upper extremity surgeries in pediatric patients. In recent years, ultrasound guidance for this procedure has reduced the fail and complications like pneumothorax, intravascular injection and nerve damage. However, the number of studies about brachial plexus block is not enough, particularly in pediatric patients, which remained under-researched. In our study, we aimed to discuss the efficacy and safety of the ultrasound-guided brachial plexus block in pediatric patients by retrospectively examini

Advances in supraglottic airway devices for the management of difficult airways in children.

There are innumerable tools and devices available to facilitate airway management and life-saving gas exchange of the patient's lungs. Over the years, various designs and generations of supraglottic airway devices have proven to be effective in accomplishing this function. Their application has grown beyond the original purpose of controlling the normal pediatric airway without tracheal intubation, and has been incorporated in the difficult airway management algorithms of anesthesia societies around the world based on clear evidence of efficacy. Older supraglottic airway devices since the 1980
