Pityriasis rosea (PR) is a prevalent dermatological condition characterized by a distinctive herald patch, followed by secondary eruptions, often forming a "Christmas tree" pattern on the trunk. Despite its recognizable clinical presentation, the etiology of PR remains uncertain, with hypotheses pointing to both infectious and noninfectious origins. Human herpesviruses (HHV) 6 and 7 have been implicated, with evidence suggesting viral reactivation as a potential trigger. Epidemiologically, PR affects children, adolescents, and young adults, with a higher incidence in females. The condition is …

Pityriasis rubra pilaris (PRP) is a rare dermatologic condition whose etiology is largely unknown. However, some medications, including ponatinib, have been implicated. Our case features an 80-year-old patient who developed PRP after two-and-a-half years of ponatinib use. We present this case due to the rare presentation of ponatinib-induced PRP as well as its significantly delayed presentation.

Pityriasis rosea is a self-limiting skin disorder that can occur in pediatric patients. We report an atypical presentation of a 23-month-old male with a generalized rash similar in appearance to pityriasis rosea. We then review the literature on pityriasis rosea and its application to pediatrics. Our patient had the rash as the only presentation which was also atypical in appearance as opposed to the regular rashes seen with pityriasis rosea which makes this case further interesting. We only treated the case symptomatically and the patient had spontaneous resolution of symptoms.

Pityriasis versicolor is clinically characterized by slightly scaly, hyper- or hypopigmented macules usually located on the chest, shoulders, back, and arms. Rare cases of atypical locations of pityriasis versicolor have been described, such as groins, penis, and perineum. We present three cases of pityriasis versicolor located exclusively on the submammary folds, pubis, and inguinal folds (the latter in an 11-year-old girl), respectively. Considering both the location and clinical presentation of pityriasis versicolor in these three patients, we think the diagnosis of erythrasmoid pityriasis …

Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) is characterized by the activation of a cytokine storm derived from an excess release of cytokine (interleukin [IL]-6, interferon [IFN] I, C-X-C motif chemokine ligand [CXCL]10, tumor necrosis factor [TNF]-α, macrophage inflammatory protein [MIP]1) due to an uncontrolled immune activation. There has been a fivefold increase in the number of cases of pityriasis rosea during the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic. Using the keywords "pityriasis" and "COVID-19", we carried out a PubMed search, including all articles in the English language published u…
