Antisera to fluphenazine sulfoxide were raised in New Zealand white rabbits to an immunogen synthesized by covalent linkage of bovine serum albumin to 10-[[3-[4-(4-carboxybutyl)-1-piperazinyl] propyl]]-2-trifluoromethyl-10H-phenothiazine 5-sulfoxide. Fifty surgical specimens from 10 different diseases were examined for the presence of binucleate plasma cells. Thirty-three specimens showed binucleated plasma cells. Morphologically, they resembled mononuclear cells and contained abundant basophilic cytoplasm which ultra-structurally showed extensive rough endoplasmic reticulum. As part of a pilot study to assess the efficacy of propranolol in the treatment of aggression in psychiatric patients, drug interactions of propranolol with other agents were estimated by blood level monitoring. Albumin, transferrin and 'transmanganin' have all been proposed as the major Mn-binding ligand in plasma. The present investigations were initiated in order to resolve these discrepancies. Compared to other metals tested (109 Cd2+, 65Zn2+, 59Fe3+), 54Mn2+ bound poorly to purified albumin. A well-documented case of plasma-cell gingivitis is presented. When viewed in a total perspective, the clinical examination, history of usage of a popular mint , laboratory data and histologic examination provide support for this diagnosis. This patient did not exhibit any evidence of glossitis or cheilitis as is often reported in the literature; however, a positive history to psoriasis was noted. The occurrence of plasma-cell gingivitis in a patient with documented psoriasis provides some interesting speculation regarding the etiologic picture of this condition.

By using a combination of a heterologous antiserum to GPIb/glycocalicin and a radiolabeled monoclonal antibody to GPIb/glycocalicin, we were able to develop a sensitive and specific radioimmunoelectrophoretic assay that can distinguish small amounts of glycocalicin from GPIb. In light of the numerous but rather conflicting reports on the action of benzodiazepines upon the hypothalamo-hypophyseal-adrenal (HHA) axis activity, the effect of different doses of diazepam (0.1, 1.0 and 10.0 mg/kg) administered 15, 30, 60, 120 and 240 min before decapitation on plasma corticosterone level was studied in rats. We have developed a photometric assay for fibrinogen concentration. The sample is mixed with a snake venom enzyme (Batroxobin) and fibrin formation is recorded turbidimetrically at 334 nm. Reaction conditions are such that a linear increase in absorbance is obtained over a concentration range of fibrinogen from 80-700 mg/dl.
