Development and initial testing of Asthma Predictive Index for a retrospective study: an exploratory study.

OBJECTIVE: Asthma Predictive Index (API) has been used for predicting asthma in prospective or cross-sectional studies, not for a retrospective study. We aim to develop and validate API for a retrospective study. METHODS: This is a cross-sectional study based on a convenience sample of children who participated in a previous retrospective cohort study. API was operationalized by two or more wheezing episodes in a year during the first 3 years of life PLUS one of the major or two of the minor criteria of the original API. We assessed validity of retrospective API against Predetermined Asthma C

Pharmacokinetics of acute sertraline overdose: an observational retrospective study.

BACKGROUND: Sertraline, a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor is commonly prescribed for adolescent patients with depression, either as monotherapy or in combination with other treatments. Therapeutic doses typically range from 50 to 300 mg/day, whereas overdose cases generally exceed 450 mg, as observed in this study. This study aimed to characterise the pharmacokinetic profiles of sertraline in acute overdose settings and evaluate the impact of gastric lavage on drug clearance. METHODS: This observational case retrospective study analysed the clinical manifestations, severity, treatment

Endoscopic papillectomy for ampullary tumors: Multicenter retrospective study.

BACKGROUND AND STUDY AIMS: Although endoscopic papillectomy is an established minimally invasive alternative to surgical resection for ampullary tumors, its technical aspects remain poorly defined. This study aimed to identify factors associated with piecemeal resection and recurrence-free survival after endoscopic papillectomy. PATIENTS AND METHODS: A multicenter, retrospective analysis of consecutive patients who underwent endoscopic papillectomy in six tertiary Polish centers between 2011 and 2023 was performed. Multivariable logistic and Cox regression models were applied. RESULTS: A tot

Vasopressor Use in Acute Burn Resuscitation: A Retrospective Study.

BACKGROUND: Vasopressors are often introduced in severe burn patients who respond poorly to fluid resuscitation to maintain adequate blood pressure and avoid fluid creep. This study aims to characterise these patients and explore potential correlations between vasopressor use and patient outcomes. METHODS: Medical records from 2010 to 2023 for patients aged ≥ 18 years with burns ≥ 20% of the total body surface area (TBSA) were extracted from the TriNetX Research Network, a global federated health research platform aggregating de-identified electronic health records. The patients were divided

A Retrospective Study of Outcomes of Surgical Management of Severe Laryngomalacia.

BACKGROUND: Laryngomalacia is the most common cause of congenital stridor in infants. While most cases are mild and self-limiting, some develop severe disease requiring surgical intervention due to airway obstruction, feeding difficulties, or failure to thrive. This study evaluates the outcomes of surgical management for severe laryngomalacia at a tertiary care pediatric center. METHODS: A retrospective review was conducted of 56 children with severe laryngomalacia who underwent surgery between January 2013 and January 2023. Patients with secondary airway lesions or significant comorbidities

Catatonia Associated with Psychosis: A Retrospective Study of 164 Inpatients.

INTRODUCTION: This study examines how inpatients with catatonia responded when treated with or without antipsychotic medications. It employs two metrics to account for both the catatonic symptoms and the more traditionally psychotic symptoms. Length of stay is a secondary metric. METHODS: The primary investigator retrospectively collected data on 164 patients diagnosed with catatonia on an academic inpatient service from July 2018 through September 2023. The treatments of these patients were separated into two distinct categories: Group A (n = 81) received antipsychotic medication with benzod

Predictors of Shoulder Dystocia: A Retrospective Case-Control Study.

INTRODUCTION: Shoulder dystocia (SD) is rare, but it has serious consequences. Antepartum risk stratification for SD has demonstrated variability across populations, reflecting differences in assessment methodologies. METHODS: We conducted a retrospective analysis using a prospectively audited electronic database from a single center. All singleton vertex deliveries between January 2012 and December 2017 were reviewed. SD cases were identified by the recorded use of ancillary maneuvers during shoulder delivery. Case-control matching was informed by previously published odds ratios for key var

TTN variants in pediatric cardiomyopathy: a retrospective cohort study.

BACKGROUND: Titin (TTN) variants have been implicated in various types of cardiomyopathy. Allelic variant heterogeneity results in variable clinical phenotypes, which remains a major barrier for effective disease management. We aim to investigate the relationship between TTN variants and their associated cardiomyopathies and clinical outcomes. METHODS: A retrospective observational study was performed to evaluate patients with cardiomyopathy and TTN variants confirmed by whole-exome sequencing (WES) from January 2015 to December 2024. Univariable Cox regression analysis was conducted to ident
