A therapeutic trial with polyvitamins and dichloroacetate (DCA) in combination with thiamine in a 13-year-old girl with complex I deficiency is reported. This review critically examines the relationship between nutritional status and malaria. The data indicate that protein-energy malnutrition is associated with greater malaria morbidity and mortality in humans. In addition, controlled trials of either vitamin A or zinc supplementation show that these nutrients can substantially reduce clinical malaria attacks. OBJECTIVE: To validate a Food Diversity Questionnaire (CDA, for its name in Spanish) that identifies the prevalence of the risk of deficiency in the intake of eleven micronutrients.
DESIGN: The CDA paper form, an online application for data entry and handling, was designed and compared with the 24-h recall (24HR) as a reference method. All data were processed in Personal Computer Software for Intake Distribution Estimation (PC-SIDE) v1 software. A descriptive analysis and comparisons between prevalence, concordance and reproducibility analyses were performed.

Anthropometric investigations conducted have shown that 28.1% of the workers have excessive body mass. At the same time energy expenditure of workers at some departments and bays is within the range of 164 +/- 1.6-188.89 +/- 3.5 kcal/h. A comparative study of the esophageal mucosa versus vitamin status in the adult male population of Muinak District of the Karakalpak ASSR, characterized by high incidence of esophageal cancer, established a significantly high frequency of chronic esophagitis. The differential evaluation of different pathologies of the esophageal mucosa suggested a link between catarrhal and erosive esophagitis and vitamin B2 deficiency and atrophic esophagitis and vitamin A deficit.

To determine the prevalence of precursor lesions of oesophageal cancer in Linxian, People's Republic of China, which has an extremely high incidence of oesophageal cancer, 527 subjects were interviewed by a questionnaire about exposure to suspected risk factors.
