INTRODUCTION: Multiple hereditary exostosis (MHE) is the formation of benign, cartilage-capped bony outgrowths predominantly extending from the metaphysis of long bones that presents with reduction in growth, deformity, restricted motion, short stature and premature osteoarthritis.
AIM: To review the clinical and radiological results of a stemless reverse shoulder arthroplasty in a case of MHE.
CASE: 81-year-old, right hand dominant short-statured retired male engineer with long standing shoulder pain and restricted movements on the background of an old proximal humeral fracture managed cons

The association of a malunited clavicular fracture with a pattern of disability that includes not only pain but also impairment of shoulder function is rare. But in cases where such an association exists, correction of the clavicular deformity should be considered. We report on 4 patients with a malunited fracture of the clavicle after nonoperative treatment. In all 4 patients fracture union had occurred with shortening associated with pain and ipsilateral glenohumeral dysfunction. The deformity was not associated with neurovascular dysfunction. On preoperative radiographs the shortening of th

Many varieties of swaddling bandages for injuries of the shoulder are in use and are called Velpeau bandages. Velpeau's original description has been consulted. The injured arm is placed across the chest and turns of bandage are made from beneath the sound axilla, over the injured shoulder, in front of the injured arm, and beneath the elbow, to pass again to the sound axilla. It is completed by transverse turns. Velpeau, a blacksmith's son, was born in 1795, became professor of surgery in Paris, and died in 1867 after a distinguished career.

First-rib stress fractures have been described in adolescent athletes in various sports, with only one prior case report of first-rib stress fractures in an adolescent female swimmer. There is a need for research on the cause, management, and prevention of these injuries as they lead to significant morbidity and critical time away from sport for these aspiring athletes. We aimed to describe first-rib stress fractures as a potential cause for non-specific atraumatic chronic shoulder pain in adolescent swimmers and to discuss the different presentations, unique risk factors, treatment, and poten

BACKGROUND: The primary aim of this study was to determine the epidemiology of lateral-end clavicle fractures in adolescents. The secondary aim was to assess the outcome following non-operative management.
METHODS: A retrospective review of all adolescent clavicle fractures over a 10-year period was undertaken. Fracture classification, demographics, management, and complications were analysed. Functional outcomes were undertaken with the Quick Disabilities of Arm, Shoulder and Hand and EuroQol five-dimension at mean 8.8 years post-injury.
RESULTS: In total, 677 clavicle fractures were analys

BACKGROUND: The treatment of unstable fractures of the distal radius remains controversial between nonoperative and operative management and between different methods of internal and external fixation. The aim of the study is to evaluate the early functional and radiologic outcomes of using Association for the Study of Osteosynthesis (AO) (Synthes) distal radius volar locking plate for unstable dorsally displaced distal radius fractures.
METHODS: Seventeen consecutive fractures in 16 patients were included in the study. The average age of the patients was 46 years. There were 11 women and 5 m

PURPOSE. To compare functional outcomes, union and complication rates in patients treated with locked intramedullary nailing or dynamic compression plating for humeral shaft fractures. METHODS. 32 men and 2 women with humeral shaft fractures were randomised to undergo locked antegrade intramedullary nailing (IMN, n=16) or dynamic compression plating (DCP, n=18). Patients with pathological fractures, grade-III open fractures, neurovascular injury, or fractures for more than 2 weeks were excluded. Fractures were classified according to the AO classification system (one in A1, 6 in A2, 12 in A3,

BACKGROUND: The increasing incidence of proximal humeral fractures poses complex challenges in determining the optimal therapeutic strategies due to the diverse fracture patterns and individual patient characteristics. Traumatologists and orthopedic surgeons face significant decisions, as potential consequences such as pain, functional limitations, and complications may significantly affect patients' quality of life. Given the varying viewpoints on appropriate treatment modalities, a thorough examination of current care practices is crucial.
METHODS: An adaptive online survey was conducted to

BACKGROUND: The clavicle is recognized as the bone most vulnerable to fractures. Moreover, approximately 80% of fractures occur in the middle third of the clavicle. Conservative treatment is associated with a higher rate of nonunion, while surgical treatment of fracture via internal fixation may have a variety of postoperative complications. Therefore, to improve patient satisfaction and reduce the complications related to internal fixation techniques, we modified the surgical approach to external fixation.
OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to assess the modified intervention's prospec

This paper is concerned with the provision of an upper limb prosthesis in the presence of an axillaris nerve paralysis and additional injuries such as clavicular and scapular fractures, dislocation of the shoulder and major psychological changes. Such paralysis and injuries exclude the use of a myoelectric prosthesis. The shoulder muscles were trained to provide traction forces which controlled an MGH-S hand (VIENNATONE).

PURPOSE: This study offers a systematic review and quantitative evaluation of the methodological quality of prospective studies comparing open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) and reverse total shoulder arthroplasty (RTSA) for the treatment of proximal humerus fractures.
METHODS: A systematic review was conducted in accordance with PRISMA guidelines identifying prospective cohort studies or randomized controlled trials (RCTs) comparing ORIF and RTSA for the management of traumatic proximal humerus fractures in skeletally mature patients. Two reviewers independently evaluated the methodo

Management of clavicle fracture has progressed over the last decade, notably with wider use of surgery in midshaft fracture, and new techniques for lateral fracture. Midshaft clavicle fracture treatment needs to be personalized and adapted to the patient's activity level. Whichever the segment involved, treatment for non-displaced fracture is functional; elbow-to-body sling immobilization seems the best tolerated. Apart from regular surgical indications (shoulder impaction, floating shoulder, open fracture or fracture with neurovascular complications), surgery is recommended in case of bone sh

BACKGROUND: Rheumatoid arthritis affecting the shoulder is typically associated with rotator cuff compromise and can also result in severe glenoid erosion. Since reverse shoulder arthroplasty is capable of addressing both rotator cuff disorders and glenoid bone deficiencies, our aim was to evaluate the outcome of reverse shoulder arthroplasty in patients with rheumatoid arthritis and either or both of these associated conditions.
METHODS: We performed eighteen primary reverse total shoulder arthroplasties in sixteen patients with rheumatoid arthritis involving the shoulder as well as associat

UNLABELLED: Fractures of the scapula body are relatively rare constituting 1% of all fractures and 5% of all fractures around shoulder (1). They are usually caused due to high energy vehicular trauma or fall of heavy object over scapula (1,2,3). In most cases of scapula fractures, early functional treatment gives good or excellent results (1,2). Operative treatment may however be indicated in highly displaced scapular body fractures, glenoid fossa fractures, surgical and anatomical neck fractures (1,2,3,4). Very little has been published regarding the operative management of such fractures and
