Preliminary results for collisional broadening are reported for two lines P(8) and R(32) of the nu3-nu1 band of CS2 in mixture with O2 and air. These values and previous results for CS2-N2 enable us to compare the broadening coefficients directly obtained for CS2-air with those derived from CS2-N2 and CS2-O2.

A numerical method, based on the use of spectrophotometric data coupled to PLS-1 multivariate calibration, is reported for the simultaneous determination of furosemide and amiloride hydrochloride in synthetic samples and commercial tablets. Total aluminum, chromium, copper, iron, manganese, and nickel were determined in black tea, green tea, Hibiscus sabdariffa, and Ilex paraguariensis (mate) by electrothermal atomic absorption spectrometry after nitric/perchloric acid digestion. This study attempts to combine the advantages of microcolumn high-performance liquid chromatography (micro-HPLC) with those of post-column photochemical derivatization in barbiturate analysis. Some barbiturates are photochemically unstable, leading to photoproducts that show maximum absorption at 270 nm and not the typical one at approximately 220 nm. For this purpose, a laboratory-built photoreactor has been developed to work with micro-HPLC instruments. Its performance is satisfactory in the forensic analysis of barbiturates.

Total tin contents can be directly detected by zirconium-coated graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry,while the organotin was detected by hydride generation combined with solvent extraction and the difference between the total tin and organotin was inorganic tin. Some chlorinated hydrocarbon solvents--1,1,1-trichloroethane, trichloroethylene and perchloroethylene--have a common biotransformation product, trichloroacetic acid, which can be used as their biological exposure index. The spectrophotometric and gas chromatographic methods for the determination of trichloroacetic acid were studied and used as well as in its determination in the urine of workers exposed to 1,1,1-trichloroethane. Both methods showed good precision and no statistically significant difference was found although the gas chromatographic method presented a lower detection limit.

A rapid method is presented for detection and determination of anhydrotetracycline-HCl (ATC-HCl) and 4-epianhydrotetracycline-HCl (4-EATC-HCl) in tetracycline-HCl (TC-HCl). The method determines the 2 compounds as a sum, not individually. The first derivative absorption curve has a trough (D1) at 460 nm which is linearly related to concentration (1-10 mg/mL). We describe a "highly-performance" liquid chromatographic method in which 8-chlorotheophylline is used as an internal standard to determine acetaminophen and salicylate simultaneously in plasma samples. Therapeutic as well as toxic concentrations can be determined on samples as small as 50 micro L, which makes the method particularly useful for determinations on samples from young children. The procedure requires a simple extraction of the drugs, and the chromatography is completed in 6 min.
