INTRODUCTION: Ankylosing spondylitis (AS) is an inflammatory rheumatic disease characterized by spine and sacroiliac joint involvement that mainly affects young male subjects. Eight men with Andersson lesions associated with ankylosing spondylitis who underwent surgical treatment were reviewed for this study. Aortic disease and aortic valve regurgitation are well documented in association with ankylosing spondylitis, although involvement of the mitral valve occurs more rarely.
