Institutionalizing medical certification of cause of death training: experiences and insights from seven countries.

BACKGROUND: Accurate medical certification of cause of death (MCCD) is indispensable to producing high-quality mortality data for public health planning and health systems. While training is known to improve MCCD quality, countries may struggle to institutionalize training programs sustainably. OBJECTIVE: This study examines the approaches taken by seven countries across three world regions - Bangladesh, Colombia, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Sri Lanka, and Tanzania - to institutionalize MCCD training within national medical education frameworks. METHODS: This qualitative multi-country study use

Optimising access to employment support for people with multiple sclerosis through charities: a qualitative study using Normalisation Process Theory.

BACKGROUND: Vocational rehabilitation (VR) interventions aimed at optimising job retention could help people with multiple sclerosis (MS) stay employed longer and prevent premature job loss. Currently, there is a lack of specialist services providing these types of interventions in the United Kingdom, and existing healthcare services are overstretched, hindering the introduction of a new service. This study aims to report on the adaptation of an MS-specific VR intervention for implementation within charities supporting those living with MS. METHODS: Semi-structured interviews with people with

Measuring affective symptoms of depression in aphasia: development of an accessible ecological momentary assessment tool.

PURPOSE: Post-stroke depression is highly prevalent in aphasia, yet existing depression measures rely heavily on language and lack sufficient validity for this population. The aim of this study was to develop an aphasia-accessible Ecological Momentary Assessment (EMA) of depression based on the input of people with aphasia, their care partners, and speech-language pathologists (SLPs). METHODS: Nine focus groups were conducted with people with aphasia (n = 15), care partners (n = 13), and SLPs (n = 13) to identify relevant depression symptoms. Items were selected based on factors such as endor

An Exploration of U.S. Southern Faith Leaders' Perspectives of HIV Prevention, Sexuality, and Sexual Health Teachings.

Reducing human immunodeficiency viruses (HIV) and acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS) racial/ethnic disparities in the Deep South has been a critical objective of the U.S. National HIV/AIDS Strategy. This finding, originally published in 2010 by the Office of National AIDS Policy, serves as a complement to the Health and Human Resources and Services Administration's Ending the HIV Epidemic (EtHE): A Plan for America. The EtHE plan, released in 2019, emphasizes community stakeholder involvement to achieve the planning goals of decreasing new HIV infections in key U.S. geographic areas. A

Operationalizing a shared decision making model for work rehabilitation programs: a consensus process.

PURPOSE: The objective of this study was to design and operationalize shared decision making (SDM) rehabilitation model for worker rehabilitation programs. SDM has previously been shown to improve decision outcomes in patient-health care professional relationships. To date, SDM has not yet been adapted to work rehabilitation, although it could be a valuable approach to better understand and agree on return-to-work decisions. METHODS: We designed a preliminary model for return-to-work decisions for workers suffering from pain due to musculoskeletal injuries. We submitted the preliminary model

A qualitative study exploring stakeholder perspectives on the use of biological samples for future unspecified research in Malawi.

BACKGROUND: There is growing interest in the collection, storage and reuse of biological samples for future research. Storage and future use of biological samples raise ethical concerns and questions about approaches that safeguard the interests of participants. The situation is further complicated in Africa where there is a general lack of governing ethical frameworks that could guide the research community on appropriate approaches for sample storage and use. Furthermore, there is limited empirical data to guide development of such frameworks. A qualitative study to address this gap was cond
