BACKGROUND: Acute compartment syndrome, a surgical emergency, is defined as increased pressure in an osseofascial space. The resulting reduction of capillary perfusion to that compartment requires prompt fasciotomy. Treatment delay has a poor prognosis, and is associated with muscle and nerve ischemia, resultant infarction, and late-onset contractures.

The aim of this study was to explore and describe total drug use among anabolic-androgenic steroid (AAS) users and the reasons given for the use of these drugs. The study was based on semi-structured interviews and questionnaires involving 32 patients who were attending an addiction centre in Orebro, Sweden, for AAS use. This review explores the condition of muscle dysmorphia (MD) and its relationship with anabolic androgenic steroids (AAS). Particular emphasis is placed upon whether anabolic steroids are a predisposing, precipitating or perpetuating factor of MD. Furthermore, psychiatric complications of AAS abuse are examined. BACKGROUND: Long-term treatment with high-dose glucocorticoids (GCs) has profound effects on bone metabolism and linear growth. Bone metabolism is a balance between bone resorption by osteoclasts and new bone formation by osteoblasts. Systemically, GC treatment reduces circulating levels of estrogen and modestly increases parathyroid hormone levels. OBJECTIVE: To describe a rare complication of intratympanic injection of steroids in susceptible ears.
PATIENTS: We present two patients with a history of irradiation involving the injected ear.
INTERVENTION: Therapeutic.
MAIN OUTCOME MEASURE: Tympanic membrane condition after intratympanic injection of steroids.
RESULTS: Total or near-total breakdown of the irradiated tympanic membrane.
CONCLUSION: Tympanic membranes with an impaired wound-healing ability, together with exposure to intratympanic steroids, may be at risk for total or near-total breakdown.

Acute gonococcal urethritis is usually a symptomatic infection in males. Most men will present within one or two weeks after an exposure with symptoms of urethral discharge and dysuria. Early diagnosis is possible in genitourinary medicine clinics with typical signs and symptoms along with microscopy awaiting confirmation by culture and sensitivities. We report a case of gonorrhoea in which we believe the symptoms were masked due to regular use of steroids in a body builder.

Isolated epiglottic tuberculosis (TBC) is uncommon and has rarely been described. We report the case of a 40-year-old man with tuberculous involvement of the epiglottis and primary adrenal insufficiency. Endoscopic examination showed a severely swollen epiglottis with granulomatous and partially necrotic mucosa. The patient has been treated with glucocorticoids for four years due to primary adrenocortical insufficiency.
