Surgical management of the airway in children with Pierre Robin Sequence (PRS) includes tongue lip adhesion and mandibular distraction. Herein, the authors report the first case of an alternative surgical approach, the tongue base suspension (TBS).A full-term 5-week-old male with PRS with difficulty managing his airway through noninvasive mechanisms. BACKGROUND: Rapid and accurate microbiological detection is crucial for effective treatment of peritonitis patients with peritoneal dialysis (PD). Although centrifugation of dialysis effluents can increase the pathogen culture-positive rate, a lack of both centrifugation facilities and experienced staff has prevented its widespread implementation, particularly in basic-level hospitals in developing countries. Thus, we developed a simple peritoneal sediment-collecting method, suspension precipitation method, for microbiological diagnosis of peritonitis.

OBJECTIVE: Chylous ascites (CA) is a rare form of ascites that results from the leakage of lipid-rich lymph into the peritoneal cavity. In infants, CA is mostly caused by lymphatic malformation or unknown reasons. The creation of a shunt for the lymphorrhea is the last option for patients unresponsive to all other conservative treatments. Localization of the leakage is a critical problem during surgery. We applied a carbon nanoparticle suspension (CNS) in CA patients to locate the external lymphatic leakage and evaluated its utility during surgery.
