Comparing optical coherence tomography findings in different aetiologies of infectious necrotising retinitis.

AIMS: To compare optical coherence tomography (OCT) features of active necrotising infectious retinitis (NIR) due to toxoplasmosis or herpesviruses and to determine distinctive OCT signs for these two causes of infectious retinitis. METHODS: OCT scans from eyes with active NIR due to varicella zoster virus (VZV), herpes simplex virus (HSV), cytomegalovirus (CMV), and toxoplasmosis (TOXO) were reviewed. All images were evaluated for the presence of previously described OCT findings in TOXO-NIR and compared with the viral group. New OCT findings were recorded and compared. Retinal and choroidal

Glaucoma Increases Retinal Surface Contour Variability as Measured by Optical Coherence Tomography.

PURPOSE: We investigated the feasibility of glaucoma detection by measuring retinal surface contour variability (RSCV) using optical coherence tomography (OCT). METHODS: The peripapillary region in one eye of each participant was scanned over an 8 × 8 mm area with a swept source OCT prototype. The retinal surface contour was sampled at approximately 1.5- to 3.5-mm radius circles centered on the optic nerve head. The RSCV is defined as the average log value within a middle spatial frequency band of the Fourier transform to the elevation profile of the inner retinal surface. The spatial frequen

A case of recurrent unstable angina - Insight from optical coherence tomography imaging.

Intimal tear is a rare cause of ACS and is angiographically indistinguishable. OCT provides unprecendented insight to the mechanism of ACS with its near tissue level definition. This is a case of unstable angina with non-significant RCA lesion. OCT showed intimal tear/flaps with evidence of thrombi, thus clinching the diagnosis.

[The new findings of high myopia by swept-source optical coherence tomography].

The fundus disease of high myopia, one of the main reasons leading to visual impairment, includes different types of the retinal, choroidal and scleral changes, and in particular the macular and optic disc lesions. Due to technical limitations, it is relatively difficult to study the characteristics of the sclera and the choroid in humans in vivo. The swept-source optical coherence tomography, with the long wave swept laser as a light source, has less sensitivity roll-off with the tissue depth, which makes it possible to check the choroid and the sclera. The recent studies of the characteristi

Intraoperative optical coherence tomography for assessing human lymph nodes for metastatic cancer.

BACKGROUND: Evaluation of lymph node (LN) status is an important factor for detecting metastasis and thereby staging breast cancer. Currently utilized clinical techniques involve the surgical disruption and resection of lymphatic structure, whether nodes or axillary contents, for histological examination. While reasonably effective at detection of macrometastasis, the majority of the resected lymph nodes are histologically negative. Improvements need to be made to better detect micrometastasis, minimize or eliminate lymphatic disruption complications, and provide immediate and accurate intraop

Bilateral Photic Maculopathy Following Pterygium Excision: Spectral Domain Optical Coherence Tomography Findings.

PURPOSE: To report high resolution spectral domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) findings in a case with bilateral photic maculopathy and resultant central scotoma following pterygium excision. CASE REPORT: A 38-year-old man with a history of pterygium excision complained of visual disturbance and annoying central scotoma in both eyes. Although he had subtle funduscopic and angiographic changes, SD-OCT precisely showed disruption of the photoreceptors inner segment/outer segment in the foveal center. CONCLUSION: Phototoxic macular damage following ocular surgeries may be diagnosed wi

Contribution of optical coherence tomography imaging in management of iatrogenic coronary dissection.

Iatrogenic coronary dissection is a rare but potentially serious complication of coronary angiography and angioplasty. Treatment with angioplasty guided only by angiography is often difficult. Optical coherence tomography imaging seems to be an interesting technique to lead the management of iatrogenic coronary dissection. Diagnosis can be made by optical coherence tomography; it can also eliminate differential diagnosis. Furthermore, this technique can guide safely the endovascular treatment.

Optical Coherence Tomography Angiography for Detecting Choroidal Neovascularization Secondary to Choroidal Osteoma.

Choroidal osteoma is an ossifying tumor that is found predominantly in the peripapillary and macular areas. It typically affects otherwise healthy females. Vision loss may occur secondary to the development of choroidal neovascularization (CNV). Fluorescein angiography (FA) remains the gold standard for diagnosing CNV; however, the use of optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) as an adjunct to FA is growing. In this report, a 16-year-old female with a large, unilateral peripapillary choroidal osteoma presented with blurred vision. Exam revealed scattered intraretinal hemorrhage, but F

Optical coherence tomography assessment and quantification of intracoronary thrombus: Status and perspectives.

Coronary angiography is the "golden standard" imaging technique in interventional cardiology and it is still widely used to guide interventions. A major drawback of this technique, however, is that it is inaccurate in the evaluation and quantification of intracoronary thrombus burden, a critical prognosticator and predictor of intraprocedural complications in acute coronary syndromes. The introduction of optical coherence tomography (OCT) holds the promise of overcoming this important limitation, as near-infrared light is uniquely sensitive to hemoglobin, the pigment of red blood cells trapped

Neointimal Coverage After Drug-Eluting Stent Implantation: Insights from Optical Coherence Tomography.

Optical coherence tomography (OCT), which provides high-resolution imaging of the coronary vasculature, has provided novel insights into the pathophysiology of neointimal growth after drug-eluting stent (DES) implantation. The natural history, time course, and characteristics of strut coverage with neointima have been well defined by OCT. Pathology studies have identified strut coverage as a risk factor for stent thrombosis, and OCT studies have shown that next-generation DES have better strut coverage than first-generation DES. By reducing the incidence of stent thrombosis, improved strut cov
