BACKGROUND: Low Titer Group O Whole Blood (LTOWB) use has expanded to include patients with non-traumatic bleeding etiologies. While a large body of evidence supports a potential survival benefit of LTOWB in trauma patients, data demonstrating the safety and efficacy of LTOWB in non-trauma patients are lacking.

Hormonal response following a minor physiological stress induced by bleeding in a blood donor clinic was investigated in 134 humans with different blood groups. BACKGROUND: The use of blood group O as "universal blood" for emergency whole blood transfusions carries the risk for a hemolytic transfusion reaction mediated by incompatible A/B antibodies.
