PURPOSE: To identify predictors and develop a scoring model to predict maternal near-miss (MNM) and maternal mortality.
METHODS: A case-control study of 1,420 women delivered between 2014 and 2020 was conducted. Cases were women with MNM or maternal death, controls were women who had uneventful deliveries directly after women in the cases group. Antenatal characteristics and complications were reviewed. Abdominal ectopic pregnancy is a rare type of ectopic pregnancy associated with high maternal and perinatal mortality. We present a case of a 28-year-old now primipara who was misdiagnosed to have abruptio placentae and ruptured uterus on two different occasions from a primary health care center but was found to have an advanced abdominal ectopic gestation at 21 weeks gestational age. The patient was managed by exploratory laparotomy and is currently doing well. Abdominal ectopic pregnancy, though rare, does occur in our setting, and a high index of suspicion is necessary to make a diagnosis.

OBJECTIVE: Investigation of the normal frequency of tetraploid metaphases in semidirect (STC) and cultured (LTC) chorionic villi.
METHODS: Fifty metaphases in STC- and in LTC-villi slides of 100 women of advanced maternal age were screened for tetraploidy.

A patient was referred for amniocentesis because of advanced maternal age and polyhydramnios. The fetal karyotype was a mosaic 46,XX,del(18)(p11.1)/46,XX,-18,+i(18q)de novo. The deletion appeared to encompass the whole short arm as evidenced by G banding and in situ hybridisation.
