Acupuncture for the treatment of childhood anorexia: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

OBJECTIVES: Childhood anorexia, among the commonest symptoms of children, involved long-term loss of appetite/decreased food intake and refusal to try or eat certain foods. Acupuncture is increasingly popular in childhood anorexia due to the side effects and dissatisfaction of conventional treatment, but, the efficacy and safety of acupuncture for childhood anorexia have not been reviewed systematically. METHODS: From 12 electronic databases, randomized controlled trials (RCTs) assessing acupuncture for childhood anorexia were identified in June 2021, with posttreatment improvement in clinica

Long-Term Outcomes and Course of Compensatory Sweating after Endoscopic Sympathicotomy.

BACKGROUND: Endoscopic thoracic sympathicotomy is an effective approach to the treatment of idiopathic localized hyperhidrosis, and compensatory sweating is the main reason for patient dissatisfaction. Our study discusses both the long-term outcomes of sympathicotomy and the course of compensatory sweating. METHODS: Patients with palmar and/or axillary hyperhidrosis who were operated by the same surgical team between January 2008 and December 2014 were included in the study. After at least 5 years (60 months) from operation, patients were questioned about their treatment outcomes by using an

More than just filler: an empirically informed ethical analysis of non-surgical cosmetic procedures in body dysmorphic disorder.

OBJECTIVES: To identify and analyse ethical considerations raised when individuals with body dysmorphic disorder (BDD) consult for non-surgical cosmetic procedures. Chocolate craving and disordered eating. Beyond the gender divide?

Chocolate craving in women has previously been linked to disordered eating behaviors. A relatively higher prevalence of eating disorder pathology may account for the fact that chocolate craving is significantly more common in women in North America, compared to many other countries. While support for a causal role of disordered eating in the etiology of craving in women is growing, little is known about the extent to which food cravings are associated with disordered eating behaviors in men. This study was designed to systematically assess the impact of gender and chocolate craving on measures

Effectiveness of acceptance and commitment therapy for weight stigma and related psychological outcomes: a systematic review protocol.

BACKGROUND: Weight stigma, a pervasive public health concern, is characterized by negative attitudes, prejudices, and stereotypes directed towards individuals with larger body sizes. Empirical evidence indicates a significant association between experiencing weight stigma and adverse psychological health outcomes, including body image dissatisfaction, eating disorders, and increased risk of depression, anxiety, self-harm, and suicidal ideation. Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), a third-wave behavioral approach, shows potential in reducing weight stigma by targeting psychological flexibi

Alongside many pathological condition, small penis anxiety (SPA) and penile dysmorphic disorder (PDD) can also lead to dissatisfaction even in those with normal sizes. Various enlargement methods, both invasive and non-invasive, have emerged. While penile enlargement procedures aim to improve size and esthetics, they carry potential risks that require careful consideration. A pilot study of body-mind-spirit group therapy on sleep and quality of life in individuals with visual impairment.

PURPOSE: This study evaluated the feasibility and preliminary effects of body–mind–spirit (BMS) group therapy—integrating Eastern gratitude philosophies with Western psychotherapy—on sleep and quality of life (QoL) among adults with visual impairment (VI). METHODS: A quasi-experimental study recruited 30 adults with VI (mean age 61.5 ± 11.4 years, range 26–78; 53.3% female). The experimental group received 10 weekly 130-min BMS sessions; the control group received usual care. QoL was assessed using the WHOQOL-BREF, and sleep was measured through accelerometry (XA-5) and self-reports. RESULTS:

Parenting and schema domains as predictors of intuitive and dysregulated eating in emerging adults.

Emerging adulthood is a period when enduring eating patterns consolidate and guide daily food choices. This cross-sectional study examined whether perceived parenting and early maladaptive schema (EMS) domains were associated with intuitive eating, cognitive restraint, emotional eating, and uncontrolled eating among Turkish emerging adults (N = 446). Participants completed validated measures of intuitive and dysregulated eating, maternal/paternal warmth, overprotection, rejection, and five EMS domains.
