A review of 50 patients who underwent intestinocystoplasty (ICP) or gastrocystoplasty (GCP) replacement at our department during an 8-year period is presented. The most common diagnoses were neurogenic bladder and bladder exstrophy. A total of 48 patients underwent augmentation cystoplasty and 2 had total bladder replacement. Mean follow-up time was 42 months. The clinical and metabolic aspects of the two types of ICP are reported. Meconium pleuritis developed in a neonate with a perforation of the sigmoid colon, through a diaphragmatic defect. The meconium released in the abdomen communicated with the right pleural space. The association of these defects is unusual, and the cytologic diagnosis of meconium pleuritis has not been previously reported.

From 1970-1981, 85 patients had curative sigmoid resections for adenocarcinoma and were eligible for postoperative adjuvant therapy. In a nonrandomized fashion, 10/28 B2,3 and 7/28 C2,3 patients received postoperative pelvic radiation therapy (4500-5100 rad/5-6 weeks). The basal motility of the sigmoid colon and rectum was evaluated manometrically over 3 consecutive 10-minute periods in 29 control subjects, 14 chagasic patients without megacolon, and 32 chagasic patients with megacolon. 149 patients underwent anterior resection of the sigmoid colon and the rectum with decompression-transverse colostomy. In 10 cases stenosis of the anastomosis was observed. The development of the stenosis is believed to have been caused by a small leak in the anastomosis, leading to secondary bacterial infection and hence scar formation. It is suggested that a one layer through and through silk suture promotes the eventual stenosis.

Perforation of the sigmoid colon in a 28-year-old woman during the 37th week of pregnancy is reported. There was almost complete replacement of the bowel wall by endometriotic tissue showing extensive decidualization of its stroma. This appears to be a very rare complication of endometriosis and the effects of pregnancy upon endometriosis are briefly reviewed.

Cholecystoduodenal fistula and cholecystocolonic fistula are rare complications of gallstone pathology. Several case report publications of sigmoid neo vagina prolapse highlight the techniques and challenges of both primary and recurrence repairs. The various prolapse surgery repair approaches include mesh and nonmesh sacrocolpopexy, paravaginal repair, and mesh and nonmesh sacrospinous ligament fixation, among others.
