Hydrogen sulfide (H2S) is an important signaling molecule in colorectal cancer (CRC). It is produced in the colon by the catalytic synthesis of the colonocytes' enzymatic systems and the release of intestinal microbes, and is oxidatively metabolized in the colonocytes' mitochondria. The rectosigmoid junction (RSJ) is the limit between the sigmoid colon and the rectum. The limits of this transition zone have been a source of controversy. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to elucidate the effects of cholecystectomy on the risk of colorectal cancer (CRC) by conducting a meta-analysis of 10 cohort studies.
METHODS: The eligible cohort studies were selected by searching the PubMed and EMBASE databases from their origination to June 30, 2016, as well as by consulting the reference lists of the selected articles. Two authors individually collected the data from the 10 papers. When the data showed marked heterogeneity, we used a random-effects model to estimate the overall pooled risk; otherwise, a fixed effects model was employed.

The effect of cancer on acetyl- (AChE) and butyrylcholinesterase (BuChE) activities of human gut was investigated. METHODS: 1 205 patients were examined by colonoscopy and mucosa staining with indigocarmine. The pit patterns were observed with magnifying endoscope and stereomicroscope according to the Kudo classification. The pathological diagnoses of the lesions were compared with their pit patterns.
