BACKGROUND: The conjunctival provocation test (CPT) is a diagnostic procedure for the assessment of allergic diseases. Photographs are taken before and after provocation increasing the redness of the conjunctiva due to hyperemia.

Seasonal allergic rhinitis is the most well understood of the types of allergic rhinitides. The disease is characterized by sneezing, itching, rhinorrhea, and nasal congestion upon exposure to pollen allergens in susceptible individuals. These symptoms can cause considerable misery in affected patients. Recent advances in the diagnosis and treatment of this disorder as well as new insights into the pathophysiology of allergic rhinitis enable practitioners to provide more effective therapy.

PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to evaluate the association between keratoconus (KC) and common allergic conditions, such as asthma, atopic dermatitis, and allergic rhinitis in a large-scale database-based epidemiological study.
METHODS: We conducted a cross-sectional study to estimate the epidemiologic relationship between KC and allergic diseases. The study population included all Israeli adolescents who underwent medical evaluation by the Israeli Defense Force, between the years 2005 and 2013. The presence of KC was determined by corneal topography read by an ophthalmologist.
