Mini-Implant Insertion Using a Guide Manufactured with Computer-Aided Design and Computer-Aided Manufacturing in an Adolescent Patient Suffering from Tooth Eruption Disturbance.

Due to dental diseases, anatomical restrictions, and mixed dentition, the reduction in the number of teeth and the displacement of tooth germs pose challenges in orthodontic treatment, limiting anchorage options. The presented case demonstrates an advanced treatment solution using digital CAD/CAM-technologies and medical imaging for the creation of a mini-implant template. A 12-year-old male patient experiencing delayed tooth eruption, multiple impacted germs, and maxillary constriction underwent intraoral scanning and CBCT. Utilizing coDiagnostiXTM Version 10.2 software, the acquired data wer

Interceptive Treatment with Invisalign® First in Moderate and Severe Cases: A Case Series.

The increasing demand for more aesthetic/comfortable orthodontic alternatives fostered the utilization of clear aligners in recent years. However, the efficacy of clear aligners for treating complex malocclusions is often treated with scepticism. This case series aims to evaluate the predictability of the Invisalign® First system in moderate and severe cases requiring interceptive orthodontic treatments in mixed dentition. A total of 23 patients with 102 interceptive orthodontic malocclusion traits were selected for orthodontic treatment with Invisalign® First and were examined over 18 months

Analysis of Airway and Midface in Crouzon Syndromes.

BACKGROUND: Crouzon syndrome is associated with severe respiratory impairment of the upper airway due in part to midfacial dysmorphology. We calculated the distinctive nasal diameter and pharyngeal airway volume in patients with Crouzon syndrome and compared them with age-matched control subjects. METHODS: Children with computed tomography scans in the absence of surgical intervention were included. Computed tomography scans were digitized and manipulated using Surgicase CMF (Materialise). Craniometric data relating to the midface and airway were collected. For all linear measurements, mean p

Second molar impaction associated with lip bumper therapy.

INTRODUCTION: Although lip bumpers (LBs) provide significant clinical gain of mandibular arch perimeter in mixed-dentition patients, orthodontists are reluctant to use them due to the possibility of permanent second molar eruptive disturbances. OBJECTIVE: The present study was conducted to assess second molar impaction associated with the use of LBs, and to investigate how they can be solved. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Lateral and panoramic radiographs of 67 patients (34 females and 33 males) were assessed prior (T₁) and post-LB treatment (T₂). LB therapy lasted for approximately 1.8 ± 0.9 years.

Conventional surgical treatment of oral mucocele: a series of 23 cases.

AIM: Mucocele is a common lesion of the oral mucosa that results from alterations of the minor salivary glands due to mucous accumulation, causing swelling. Conventional surgical treatment was planned for these lesions in a group of children and the success rates of the therapy during the transitional period from mixed to permanent dentition were assessed with a series of follow-ups. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A series of 23 cases of mucocele was observed in children under 10 years of age. Clinically the lesions consisted of a soft, bluish and transparent cystic swelling which normally resolved s

Long-term evidence for favorable midfacial growth after delayed hard palate repair in UCLP patients.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate whether delayed hard palate repair resulted in better midfacial growth in the long term than previously achieved with "conventional" surgical methods of palatal closure. DESIGN AND SETTING: Long-term cephalometric data from patients with unilateral cleft lip and palate were available from two Scandinavian cleft centers. The patients had been treated by different regimens, particularly regarding the method and timing of palatal surgery. Patients were analyzed retrospectively, and one investigator digitized all radiographs. PATIENTS: Thirty consecutively treated subje

Age changes in orthodontic treatment need: a longitudinal study of 10- and 13-year-old children, using the Dental Aesthetic Index.

The Dental Aesthetic Index (DAI) was used to assess the prevalence of unmet orthodontic treatment need in 150 13-year-old schoolchildren in Dunedin, New Zealand, and to compare the findings with those obtained in the same children at 10 years of age. Fewer 13-year-olds (27%) had a "mandatory" need of orthodontic treatment than when they were 10 years old (33%), 20% had "no/little" need for orthodontic treatment, 33% had an "elective" need for treatment and 20% had a "desirable" need for treatment. The fall in DAI scores is attributed to over-sensitivity of the Index to mixed dentition traits.

Exploring the Role of β-Sitosterol, Genistein, and Emodin in Periodontal Regeneration.

The incidence rate of periodontal diseases is high, which affects the quality of life of patients, and is one of the main causes of adult dentition defects. Periodontal diseases cause the periodontal intraosseous defect. If not treated in time, it can lead to alveolar bone resorption and defect, periodontal attachment loss, teeth loosening, and complete tooth loss. Bone grafting is to repair periodontal defects by transplanting materials to restore the anatomical morphology of the alveolar bone and the function of periodontal tissue. This study evaluated the osteogenic activity of 3 phytochemi

To what extent do deviations from an ideal occlusion constitute a health risk?

Selection of patients for orthodontic treatment should be based on a thorough analysis of the consequences of malocclusions for the individual. The mere presence of deviations from the concept of the ideal occlusion should have no influence on orthodontic treatment decisions. According to available studies, the influence of malocclusion on periodontal health, speech and chewing is fairly minor. Neither can orthodontic treatment be justified as an effective means of preventing TMD but it may be indicated to reduce existing signs and symptoms of TMD in certain carefully selected cases. [The effect of passive plates on the arrangement of the alveolar arch segments in unilateral total cheilognathopalatoschisis].

Maxillary alveolar arch morphology was studied from birth to palate repair at the age of 19 months in 24 children with complete unilateral cleft lip and palate (UCLP) treated with passive orthopaedic plates (treated children). 18 children with the same defect, who received no orthopaedic treatment, served as controls. The surgical procedures and the age at lip and palate repair were similar. Maxillary alveolar arch morphology was described by 15 linear and five angular measurements. No significant difference was found in total alveolar crest length neither between the cleft and the non-cleft m
