RATIONALE: Multiple myeloma (MM) is a common hematologic malignancy characterized by widespread systemic involvement. Radiation therapy is the 1st-line treatment for MM patients with brain metastases in clinical practice, whereas surgical intervention is only sporadically reported in special cases.
PATIENT CONCERNS: A MM patient receiving conventional chemotherapy presented with progressive motor dysfunction of the right limb. Imaging examinations revealed a space-occupying lesion in the left parietal lobe.

Mycobacterium ulcerans ecovar Liflandii has recently been described as the causative agent of fatal disease in different frog species. This is the first report of this pathogen in a Cuban crocodile (Crocodylus rhombifer), which died suddenly in a Hungarian zoo. The authors' findings suggest that M. ulcerans ecovar Liflandii does not exclusively infects anurans and highlights the zoonotic risk posed by this emerging pathogen.

RATIONALE: High-grade myofibroblastic sarcoma (HGMS) is a rare mesenchymal tumor with a high recurrence and metastatic rate. Few cases of high-grade myofibroblastic sarcomas have been reported. Herein, we report the first case of HGMS originating from the thyroid.

A 21-year-old miniature donkey gelding was evaluated for pruritus, inappetence, hypertriglyceridemia, and alopecia of 2 weeks' duration. Paracoccidioidomycosis is a systemic fungal disease with a highly variable distribution, endemic to Central and South America with the highest prevalence in Brazil, Argentina, and Colombia. The chronic presentation of the disease is commonly observed in adult men and they manifest with pulmonary and mucocutaneous lesions. We report a fatal case of disseminated paracoccidioidomycosis in a 68-year-old immunocompetent man, with pulmonary, skin, mucosal, and cerebral involvement. Mucocutaneous lesions were decisive for the etiological diagnosis.

Fatal hypothermia represents a diagnostic challenge in veterinary pathology. Wischnewski spots (WS) and black oesophagus (BO) have been described in human cases of fatal hypothermia but rarely in animals. We now describe WS and BO in suspected fatal hypothermia in a free-ranging brown howler monkey (Alouatta guariba clamitans) and a pet rabbit (Oryctolagus cuniculus). Both animals had dark spots resembling WS on the gastric mucosa and the monkey also had BO with haematin deposition. In both cases, stress factors and relatively cold environmental conditions were present prior to death.
