Astragalin and dihydromyricetin as adjuncts to histidine‑tryptophan‑ketoglutarate cardioplegia enhances protection during cardioplegic arrest.

The present study used an in vitro model of cold cardioplegia in isolated working rat hearts to evaluate the possible effects of two flavonoids, astragalin and dihydromyricetin, as adjuncts to histidine‑tryptophan‑ketoglutarate (HTK) cardioplegia. The following three groups of male Sprague Dawley rats were evaluated: The HTK group, treated with HTK alone; the HTK‑A group, treated with 10 µmol/l astragalin; and the HTK‑D group, treated with 10 µmol/l dihydromyricetin. Isolated rat hearts were perfused with Krebs‑Henseleit buffer for 30 min and incubated with the respective cardioplegic solution

Integrating hyperspectral features and physiological parameters for quantitative estimation of fig rust severity.

INTRODUCTION: Fig rust caused by Phakopsora nishidana is a destructive foliar disease that impairs leaf photosynthetic capacity and seriously endangers fig yield and production stability. Traditional visual diagnosis of fig rust severity relies on manual observation, which is labor-intensive, highly subjective, and incapable of large-scale, quantitative disease evaluation. Although hyperspectral remote sensing has been widely adopted for plant disease monitoring, few studies have integrated hyperspectral reflectance features and leaf physiological parameters for quantitative estimation of fig

Kaempferol combats the osteogenic differentiation damage of periodontal ligament stem cells in periodontitis via regulating EphrinB2-mediated PI3K/Akt and P38 pathways.

BACKGROUND: The osteogenic differentiation of periodontal ligament stem cells (PDLSCs) plays a fundamental role in endogenous bone regeneration during periodontitis treatment, yet achieving consistent differentiation under inflammatory conditions remains clinically challenging. Kaempferol, a phytochemical flavonol, has demonstrated osteoprotective efficacy in osteoporosis and bone repair models. However, whether kaempferol exerts pro-osteogenic effects on PDLSCs within the pathologically complex microenvironment of periodontitis, and through what molecular mechanisms, remains unexplored. Quercetin Ameliorates Deoxynivalenol-Induced Intestinal Injury and Barrier Dysfunction Associated with Inhibiting Necroptosis Signaling Pathway in Weaned Pigs.

Quercetin (Que) is a flavonol compound found in plants, which has a variety of biological activities. Necroptosis, a special form of programmed cell death, plays a vital role in the development of many gastrointestinal diseases. This study aimed to explore whether Que could attenuate the intestinal injury and barrier dysfunction of piglets after deoxynivalenol (DON) exposure through modulating the necroptosis signaling pathway. Firstly, twenty-four weaned piglets were used in a 2 × 2 factorial design and the main factors, including Que (basal diet or diet supplemented with 100 mg/kg Que) and D

Modulation of keap-1/Nrf2/HO-1 and NF-ĸb/caspase-3 signaling pathways by dihydromyricetin ameliorates sodium valproate-induced liver injury.

Nuclear factor erythroid factor 2 (Nrf2) is the key regulatory of the antioxidant response elements. Also, Nrf2 interacts with nuclear factor kappa B (NF-ĸB) to inhibit subsequent inflammatory cascade. Activation of Nrf2 signaling ameliorates drug-induced liver injury. Sodium valproate (SVP) is an anti-epilepsy drug with a hepatotoxic adverse effect that restricts its clinical use. In this study, coadministration of Dihydromyricetin (DHM), a natural flavonoid, with SVP to rats upregulated gene expression of Nrf2 and its downstream gene, heme oxygenase 1 (HO-1), while suppressed the Nrf2 repres

Influence of metal ions on flavonoid protection against asbestos-induced cell injury.

Influence of metal ions (Fe2+, Fe3+, Cu2+, Zn2+) on the protective effect of rutin, dihydroquercetin, and green tea epicatechins against in vitro asbestos-induced cell injury was studied. Metals have been found to increase the capacity of rutin and dihydroquercetin to protect peritoneal macrophages against chrysotile asbestos-induced injury. The data presented here show that this effect is due to the formation of flavonoid metal complexes, which turned out to be more effective radical scavengers than uncomplexed flavonoids. At the same time epicatechins and their metal complexes have similar a

Isolicoflavonol ameliorates acute liver injury via inhibiting NLRP3 inflammasome activation through boosting Nrf2 signaling in vitro and in vivo.

BACKGROUND: NOD like receptor pyrin domain containing 3 (NLRP3) inflammasome is involved in innate immunity, and related to liver injury. However, no inflammasome inhibitors are clinically available until now. Our previous research suggests that isolicoflavonol (ILF), isolated from Macaranga indica, is a potent NLRP3 inflammasome inhibitor, but its mechanism is unclear. METHODS: Fluorescent imaging and Western blot assay were used to ascertain the effects of ILF on pyroptosis and NLRP3 inflammasome activation in macrophages. Next, Nrf2 signal pathway, its downstream gene transcription and exp

Dihydromyricetin attenuates hypertrophic scar formation by targeting activin receptor-like kinase 5.

Hypertrophic scar (HPS) is a manifestation of abnormal tissue repair, representing excessive extracellular matrix production and abnormal function of fibroblasts, for which no satisfactory treatment is available at present. Here we identified a natural product of flavonoid, dihydromyricetin, could effectively attenuate HPS formation. We showed that local intradermal injection of dihydromyricetin (50 μM) reduced the gross scar area, cross-sectional size of the scar and the scar elevation index in a mechanical load-induced mouse model. In addition, dihydromyricetin treatment also markedly decrea

Modulation of p25 and inflammatory pathways by fisetin maintains cognitive function in Alzheimer's disease transgenic mice.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the most common type of dementia. It is the only one of the top ten causes of death in the USA for which prevention strategies have not been developed. Although AD has traditionally been associated with the deposition of amyloid β plaques and tau tangles, it is becoming increasingly clear that it involves disruptions in multiple cellular systems. Therefore, it is unlikely that hitting a single target will result in significant benefits to patients with AD. An alternative approach is to identify molecules that have multiple biological activities that are relevant to

Fisetin Augments OEC Neuroprotection Through Modulating Neurotrophin/Cytokine Signaling and Activating PI3K/Akt/CREB Pathway in an In Vitro Neurodegenerative Injury.

The persistence of deleterious substances at lesion sites severely impedes neuronal survival and axonal regeneration following central nervous system (CNS) injury or in neurodegenerative disorders. Therefore, clearing these harmful components and establishing a regeneration-permissive microenvironment are crucial for functional recovery. In this study, primary olfactory ensheathing cells (OECs) isolated from adult SD rats were pharmacologically treated with fisetin, a pharmacological agent. To model CNS injury conditions, neural debris was generated through mechanical disruption of primary neu

Astilbin ameliorates experimental autoimmune myasthenia gravis by decreased Th17 cytokines and up-regulated T regulatory cells.

Astilbin, a major bioactive compound extracted from Rhizoma smilacis glabrae (RSG), has been reported to possess immunosuppressive properties. Our study first evaluated the effect of astilbin on experimental autoimmune myasthenia gravis (EAMG) in Lewis rats. The results showed that astilbin could attenuate the severity of EAMG by decreasing antigen-specific autoantibodies with up-regulation of regulatory T cells and down-regulation of Th17 cells. In addition to, astilbin also reduced the efficiency of the antigen presenting cells on which the expression of MHC class II decreased. These results
