Genetic aberrations, including trisomies 3 and 18, and well-defined IGH translocations, have been described in marginal zone lymphomas (MZLs); however, these known genetic events are present in only a subset of cases. Here, we report the cloning of an IGH translocation partner on chromosome X, t(X;14)(p11.4;q32) that deregulates expression of an poorly characterized orphan G-protein-coupled receptor, GPR34. Elevated GPR34 gene expression was detected independent of the translocation in multiple subtypes of non-Hodgkin lymphoma and distinguished a unique molecular subtype of MZL. Increased expr

Na(+)/K(+)/Cl(-) cotransporter activity is stimulated in early G(1) phase of the cell cycle and this stimulation was shown to be an essential event in fibroblast cell proliferation. In order to elucidate further the role of the Na(+)/K(+)/Cl(-) cotransporter in cell proliferation, we overexpressed the gene encoding the Na(+)/K(+)/Cl(-) cotransporter in mouse fibroblasts, and analyzed cellular phenotypic changes. Mouse Balb/c 3T3 cells were stably transfected with the cDNA of the shark rectal gland Na(+)/K(+)/Cl(-) cotransporter gene (NKCC1), and expressed in a mammalian vector under the cytome

BACKGROUND: Although genetic polymorphism of the RH blood group system is well known in sub-Saharan Africa, national/regional specificities still remain to be described precisely. For the first time in Cameroon, Central Africa, and in order to better characterize the molecular basis driving RH phenotype variability, as well as to identify the main antigens that may be potentially responsible for alloimmunization, we sought 1) to study the RH genes in a cohort of 109 patients with sickle cell disease; 2) to study the same genes in the corresponding donors whose red blood cells (RBCs) were trans

It is difficult to control Holotrichia parallela Motschulsky with chemical insecticides due to the larvae's soil-living habit, thus the pest has caused great economic losses in agriculture. In addition, uridine diphosphate-glycosyltransferases (UGTs) catalyze the glycosylation process of a variety of small lipophilic molecules with sugars to produce water-soluble glycosides, and play multiple roles in detoxification, endobiotic modulation, and sequestration in an insect. Some UGTs were found specifically expressed in antennae of Drosophila melanogaster and Spodoptera littoralis, and glucurono-

Evidence from family and twin studies points to a genetic contribution to the etiology of eating disorders (EDs), confirmed by the association of several single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) with this group of disorders. Previous reports have suggested that the serotonin receptor (5-HT2AR) and brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) genes could be both involved in EDs susceptibility. In order to provide further evidence about such association, we focused our attention on two SNPs located in these genes carrying out a genetic association study on a large Italian cohort composed of 556 ED pat

Mutants of R. capsulatus that express nif genes constitutively with respect to ammonia were studied in order to define better the circuit that regulates nif gene transcription. One mutant class could be complemented in trans by a cosmid clone containing a wild-type gene (nifR5) defined by Tn5 inserts as being no longer than 1.6 kb. The nifR5 gene is unlinked to previously described nif genes. A second mutant class could not be complemented by the wild-type cosmid library. For one mutant in this class, a nifH::lac fusion was used to select further mutants that were Lac-. Only two of these could

The use of DNA sequence-based comparative genomics for evolutionary studies and for transferring information from model species to related large-genome species has revolutionized molecular genetics and breeding strategies for improving those crops. Comparative sequence analysis methods can be used to cross-reference genes between species maps, enhance the resolution of comparative maps, study patterns of gene evolution, identify conserved regions of the genomes, and facilitate interspecies gene cloning. In this study, 5,780 Triticeae ESTs that have been physically mapped using wheat ( Triticum

The purpose of this study is to explore the correlation between ferroptosis-related genes and schizophrenia in order to explore the new direction of diagnosis and treatment of schizophrenia. We screened the datasets related to schizophrenia from the Gene Expression Comprehensive Database (GEO) and obtained ferroptosis-related genes from the FerrDB database. Bioinformatics methods were used to analyze differentially expressed genes (DEGs) and genes associated with ferroptosis-related between schizophrenia patients and healthy controls. On this basis, the hub genes were finally screened by enric

Cell-cell communication (CCC) is involved in regulating cellular behavior in tissues. Spatial transcriptomics adds local context to gene expression, enabling more biologically grounded CCC inference than single-cell RNA-seq alone. Rapid method development has yielded diverse CCC methods, each addressing distinct biological questions through varied analytical frameworks. We review 33 recent methods and organize them into three categories: inference of communication networks at cell-type or single-cell resolution, modeling of microenvironment-driven transcriptional variability and regulatory mod

Production of transgenic cotton from Agrobacterium tumefaciens strain LBA4404 harboring the recombinant binary vector pBI121 containing the chi gene (pBI121-chi) and neomycin phosphotransferase (nptII) gene has been used. In order to confirm transgenic cotton, molecular analysis methods are used. Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and Southern blot analysis are used to confirm the integration transgenes into the plant genome. Western immunoblot analysis of proteins are extracted from leaves of transgenic cotton, which reveals the presence of an immunoreactive band with MW of approximately 31 kDa

Species of the Bacteroidales order are among the most abundant and stable bacterial members of the human gut microbiome, with diverse impacts on human health. We cultured and sequenced the genomes of 408 Bacteroidales isolates from healthy human donors representing nine genera and 35 species and performed comparative genomic, gene-specific, metabolomic, and horizontal gene transfer analyses. Families, genera, and species could be grouped based on many distinctive features. We also observed extensive DNA transfer between diverse families, allowing for shared traits and strain evolution. Fragile X syndrome (FXS) is the most common monogenic form of inherited intellectual disability and autism spectrum disorder (ASD). More than 99% of individuals with FXS are caused by the unstable expansion of CGG repeats located within the 5'-untranslated region of the FMR1 gene. The clinical features of FXS include various degrees of cognitive deficit, physical, behavioral and psychiatric problems. Early treatment and prevention from having further affected children can be guided by molecular genetic testing of the FMR1 gene. The following guideline has combined the relevant research, guidel

The authors report the case of a classic phenotype of Fabry disease in a 60-year-old male patient presenting with left ventricular hypertrophy and stroke. Genetic analysis revealed 2 GLA-gene variants, i.e., p.R356Q and p.G360R. This clinical case highlights that the finding of 2 or more GLA gene variants in a Fabry patient should lead to a careful evaluation in order to determine their exact role in the condition. This case also provides the first clinical evidence that the p.G360R mutation is pathogenic and responsible for a classic phenotype of Fabry disease. The clinical improvement follow

Adenoviral vectors have proven to be valuable resources in the development of novel therapies aimed at targeting pathological conditions of the central nervous system, including Alzheimer's disease and neoplastic brain lesions. Not only can some genetically engineered adenoviral vectors achieve remarkably efficient and specific gene delivery to target cells, but they also may act as anticancer agents by selectively replicating within cancer cells.Due to the great interest in using adenoviral vectors for various purposes, the need for a comprehensive protocol for viral vector production is espe

Currarino syndrome (CS) is characterized by the triad of partial sacral defect, anorectal malformation, and presacral mass and has been recently reported to be associated with mutations in the HLXB9 gene, which have been suggested to be the genetic background of CS. Phenotypic expression of the HLXB9 gene mutation in a CS family varies from an incomplete to a complete triad. We present variable clinical and imaging features of CS in three siblings with genetically identified HLXB9 mutation. Clinical presentation, management and outcome were also reviewed, and we suggest that magnetic resonance

Follicular lymphoma (FL) is a common, indolent malignancy with a natural history of transformation to the more aggressive form of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) in 25-60% of cases. In order to understand the pathogenesis of lymphoma genesis and evolution, the molecular changes characteristic of FL and transformed DLBCL are being studied. The most common abnormality associated with FL is the t(14;18)(q32;q21) chromosomal translocation, but many more molecular aberrations have been found in patient subgroups. The study of gene expression profiling using DNA microarrays enables large scale

Tuberous sclerosis (Bourneville-Pringle disease) is an genetic autosomal dominant disease, but in over 50% cases there are new spontaneous mutations. During this disease visceral hamartomas do tend to develop in various tissues. Earlier it was considered that in order to set a diagnosis the knowledge of Vogt's triade was required (angiofibroma, epilepsia, mental retardation). But new not typical forms occur, that do not contain all the above mentioned three elements. The phenomenon is connected with the appearance of a new mutations of the gene or with a variable gene penetrance. In these stud
