INTRODUCTION: Oral soft tissue lesions cause discomfort and potentially serious clinical problems.
CASE SERIES: These case reports present different gingival and/or mucosal lesions (pyogenic granuloma, verruca vulgaris, giant cell granuloma, fibroma, etc.) and the surgical treatment of these lesions with a neodymium:yttrium-aluminum-garnet (Nd:YAG) laser (320-μm optic fiber; 4 W; 100 mJ, 40 Hz; emission mode, pulsed, and contact mode). Patients were evaluated after laser surgery on degree of postoperative pain; discomfort; functional complications (eating and speech); and recurrence. Results

UNLABELLED: The aim of this study was to determine the relative frequency and distribution of reactive hyperplastic lesions (RHL) of the oral mucosa at the Oral Pathology Institute of the School of Dentistry at the University of Chile. This was a retrospective study of 1149 biopsies with histopathological diagnosis of RHL, performed between 2000 and 2011. The RHL were classified in 4 groups: fibrous hyperplasia (FH), pyogenic granuloma (PG), peripheral giant-cell granuloma (PGCG) and peripheral ossifying fibroma (POF).
RESULTS: the most frequent RHL was FH (71. 1%), followed by PG (21.1%), PG

BACKGROUND: A 47-year-old male non-smoker with a history of psoriasis sought a consultation because of a painless, hard-on-palpation, 1-cm exophytic lesion with a smooth and speckled surface located on the hard palate adjacent to tooth #12. The radiologic examination revealed no bone destruction. The lesion was clinically diagnosed as a fibrous hyperplasia or chronic pyogenic granuloma.
METHODS: The lesion was surgically removed, fixed in 10% neutral buffered formalin for 24 hours, and, following common practice, embedded in paraffin. Sections, 4 mum thick, were stained with hematoxylin and e

The influence of antigen retrieval (AR) technique on immunoreactivity in formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissues is recognized. In focal reactive overgrowths of oral mucosa, we noted that patterns of immunoreactivity to a fibronectin polyclonal antibody were dependent on methods of AR. To establish these patterns we investigated eight pyogenic granulomas and eight fibroepithelial polyps. In the absence of AR no immunoreactivity was observed. After alpha-chymotrypsin AR a band of intense immunoreactivity was associated with vascular endothelial cells, with either minimal or no staining of con

Numerous diseases can lead to multilocular lesions of the liver. The authors report a rare pediatric case of hepatic granulomas due to Pasteurella multocida: a 7-year-old girl with chronic fever was investigated by sonography and CT scan, demonstrating mesenteric lymph node enlargement and numerous small hepatic lesions. After surgical biopsy, histopathology of the liver specimens showed pyogenic granuloma, with serologic testing positive for Pasteurella multocida. Treatment with a tetracycline and corticosteroids was successful. Pasteurella multocida infection, despite its habitual benign cou

Introduction: Pregnancy tumors, also known as pyogenic granulomas or granuloma gravidarum, are benign vascular lesions commonly seen in the oral cavity of pregnant women. Though non-cancerous, they tend to grow rapidly, causing bleeding, pain, aesthetic concerns, and functional interference. Their development is linked to hormonal changes during pregnancy and local irritants like plaque or trauma. Traditional surgical removal can lead to discomfort and significant bleeding. This study aims to demonstrate a successful, minimally invasive management of a pregnancy tumor using a soft tissue diode

Pyogenic granuloma (PG) is a well-known tumor-like growth that commonly appears in the gingiva of the oral cavity. This reactive lesion can develop in response to local irritation, chronic low-grade trauma, long-term low-grade infection, or hormonal imbalances. PG is more frequently observed in individuals during their second and third decades of life, although it can occur at any age. It is more prevalent in young females than males, but on rare occasions, it can be found in children, even infants. Several treatment options exist for PG lesions, which apply after a final diagnosis specified b

Pyogenic granuloma, or lobular capillary hemangioma (LCH), is a vascular lesion that rarely occurs within the neuraxis and can lead to neurological deficits due to mass effect on neural structures. We present a 62-year-old man with LCH located in the intradural intramedullary region of the thoracic spine, treated surgically via gross total en bloc microsurgical resection without radiation or chemotherapy. No recurrence of LCH was noted at the 27-month follow-up, with near-complete restoration of neurological function. Our case supports that gross total resection alone of intradural intramedull

We report the case of a 73-year-old man with severe edema of the right upper extremity. Computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, and venography revealed an intravenous tumor in the middle portion of the right subclavian vein. The tumor was completely resected, and an accompanying thrombus was also removed using the transmanubrial osteomuscular sparing approach. The patient recovered well without any complications or recurrence. The histopathologic diagnosis was intravenous lobular capillary hemangioma, which is also called pyogenic granuloma. To our knowledge, this is the first reporte

Port-wine stains are a type of capillary malformation affecting 0.3% to 0.5% of the population. Port-wine stains present at birth as pink to erythematous patches on the skin and/or mucosa. Without treatment, the patches typically darken with age and may eventually develop nodular thickening or associated pyogenic granuloma. Laser and light treatments provide improvement through selective destruction of vasculature. A variety of vascular-selective lasers may be employed, with the pulsed dye laser being the most common and well studied. Early treatment produces more optimal results. Advances in

Drug-induced nail abnormalities can present with a wide variety of clinical manifestations that are often dose-related and that disappear after drug withdrawal. Some nail changes are asymptomatic and only cause cosmetic problems, whereas others cause pain and discomfort and impair manual activities or deambulation. New side effects have been recently observed with different groups of anticancer agents. These include painful onycholysis and subungual abscesses caused by taxanes and anthracyclines (eg, doxorubicin) in addition to ingrown nails, paronychia, and pyogenic granuloma associated with

Intravascular papillary endothelial hyperplasia (IPEH), also known as Masson's tumour, is an uncommon benign vascular lesion characterized by small multiple, endothelial-lined, papillary structures with hyaline stalks. It appears to be a reactive condition involving excessive proliferation of endothelial cells in normal blood vessels or in vascular malformations, perhaps in response to blood vessel injury or thrombosis. The lesions are small, superficial, reddish-blue nodules, usually in the head, neck or hand. Distinction from pyogenic granuloma and angiosarcoma usually requires pathological

Focal dermal hypoplasia (Goltz) syndrome is a rare genetic disorder characterized by cutaneous, ectodermal and mesodermal defects. We present a case in which painful, exophytic granulation tissue has been the main symptom over the past 15 years. After unsatisfactory results with a number of treatment modalities including topical steroids, silver-nitrate applications, cryotherapy, curettage, excision and pulsed-dye laser, we achieved significant benefit with curettage in combination with photodynamic therapy. Although impaired wound healing has been described in focal dermal hypoplasia, this is

The development of satellite lesions after removal of a pyogenic granuloma is well known. However, it is unusual to see this complication after the removal of a non-angiomatous lesion. We describe a patient who developed multiple small vascular lesions after excision of a dermal melanocytic naevus on her back; new lesions continued to appear over the next 20 years. Little is known about the pathogenesis of eruptive lesions developing after excision of a primary tumour. Several hypotheses, such as the influence of mechanical forces, abnormalities in the vascular system and the existence of a ci
