Sudan (SUDV) and Bundibugyo (BDBV) ebolaviruses are major outbreak pathogens lacking approved vaccines or therapeutics. Research progress has been hampered by biosafety level 4 (BSL-4) restrictions. Here, we generated recombinant vesicular stomatitis viruses expressing SUDV or BDBV glycoproteins (VSV∆G-SUDV GP, VSV∆G-BDBV GP) and established lethal infection models in Type I interferon receptor knockout (IFNAR -/ -) mice under BSL-2 conditions. Herpes B virus (BV) is a zoonotic virus and belongs to the genus Simplexvius, the same genus as human herpes simplex virus (HSV). BV typically establishes asymptomatic infection in its natural hosts, macaque monkeys. However, in humans, BV infection causes serious neurological diseases and death. Although the role of the LDL receptor concerning lipids is well known, its role in various viral and parasitic infections, and in regulating the inflammatory response is poorly understood. Several infectious agents use the LDL receptor as a port of entry, and others depend on it for their cycle of infection. In this review, we focus on the discovery, structure, and normal function of the LDL receptor, as well as its role in a selection of infections. The LDL receptor plays an important role in certain infections and is a potential target for treatment deserving further research.

BACKGROUND: It has previously been reported that 40 micrograms per mL of aminomethyltrimethylpsoralen (AMT) plus 2.4 to 7.2 J per cm2 of ultraviolet A (UVA) light inactivated 4 to 6 log10 of several model viruses in platelet suspensions.
