Reconstruction of a lower lip deformity associated with leakage of saliva (drooling) and food spillage is challenging. To achieve complete closure of the mouth, the lips must have a sufficient and uniform thickness. Here we report a patient with lower lip deformity secondary to resection of a malignant tumor, in whom reconstruction was done with a hard palate mucoperiosteal graft. The ectodermal dysplasia, ectrodactyly, cleft lip/palate syndrome (EEC syndrome) is an autosomal dominant dysplasia syndrome, whose pleiotropic effects involve mainly ectodermal structures. The most common clinical manifestations are ectodermal dysplasia, ectrodactyly , cleft lip/palate, and tear-duct anomalies. Very rarely the ectrodactyly may be absent, and skeletal abnormalities may be subtle. We present a 44-month-old girl who had features of EEC syndrome but without the classic ectrodactyly.

We report on a 23-month-old boy with bilateral cleft lip and palate, marked hypertelorism, frontal bossing and severe bilateral, asymmetric hypoplasia of toes. The mother used bisoprolol, naproxen and sumatriptan for migraine until the fifth postmenstrual week of pregnancy. We suggest that this patient's features represent a previously undescribed entity of as yet unknown aetiology.

Vascular lesions involving the lips pose a difficult problem for both the surgeon and patient. Their removal by surgery may result in greater disfigurement and impairment than the original lesion. When nonsurgical modalities fail, using a well-planned strategy of sequential procedures can provide excellent results. We describe five sporadic cases of the EEC syndrome (ectrodactyly, ectodermal dysplasia, and cleft lip). There are only a few reports of the syndrome being inherited in Japan. Two of the five patients had genitourinary anomalies and one mental retardation. Four of the five patients had clefts in the primary and secondary palate. All had deformities of the hands, polydactyly, syndactyly, and camptodactyly. Syndactyly could be a component of the syndrome.
