Correlation Analysis between Three-Dimensional Changes in Pharyngeal Airway Space and Skeletal Changes in Patients with Skeletal Class II Malocclusion following Orthognathic Surgery.

INTRODUCTION: Studies on the pharyngeal airway space (PAS) changes using three-dimensional computed tomography (CT) have shed more light on patients with Class III than Class II malocclusion. This paper focuses on analyzing the long-term changes in the PAS and evaluating the postoperative association between these PAS and skeletal changes in patients with skeletal Class II malocclusion who have undergone orthognathic surgery. METHODS: The records of 21 patients with skeletal Class II malocclusion who had undergone orthognathic surgery were included. The anatomical modifications in both jaws,

Geometric morphometric analysis of growth patterns among facial types.

INTRODUCTION: Extreme patterns of vertical facial divergence are of great importance to clinicians because of their association with dental malocclusion and functional problems of the orofacial complex. Understanding the growth patterns associated with vertical facial divergence is critical for clinicians to provide optimal treatment. This study evaluates and compares growth patterns from childhood to adulthood among 3 classifications of vertical facial divergence using longitudinal, lateral cephalograms from the Craniofacial Growth Consortium Study. METHODS: Participants (183 females, 188 ma

Camouflage Treatment for Skeletal Maxillary Protrusion and Lateral Deviation with Classic-Type Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome.

We herein report the case of a 19-year-old female with a transverse discrepancy, skeletal Class II malocclusion, severe crowding with concerns of classic-type Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (EDS), aesthetics problems and functional problems. The main characteristics of classic EDS are loose-jointedness and fragile, easily bruised skin that heals with peculiar "cigarette-paper" scars. The anteroposterior and transverse skeletal discrepancies can generally be resolved by maxilla repositioning and mandibular advancement surgery following pre-surgical orthodontic treatment. However, this patient was treat

[Cranio-Facial 3D Biometry: Complete analysis of a case of class II "limit surgery"].

With the conventional 2D exam of clinical cases, the diagnosis is penalized by the lack of data, not only for vertical or transverse or asymmetrical problems, but for classical cases of anteroposterior dysharmonies. In these cases, the effectively used parameter, ANB angle, seems insufficient. So the authors elaborated a 3D biometry tool. The program of morphological analysis is able to deliver a complete description of dysharmony, supported by Cone Beam data capture. In the first part of this article the authors present the foundation of the model: anatomical reference, skeletal landmarks, te
