Ovarian carcinoma presenting as intra-abdominal hemorrhage.

Ovarian carcinoma commonly has an insidious onset. By the time the diagnosis is made, advanced disease is usually present. Rarely does a pat … blood and a ruptured right ovarian mass were found. Pathologic analysis revealed a malignant mixed mesodermal tumor of the right ovary and an endometrioma of the left ovary. In conclusion, ovarian carcinoma may present as an acute abdomen because of intra-abdominal hemorrhage. It should be part of the differential diagnosis in a woman with an acute surgic …

Spontaneous hyphaema arising from a strand of persistent pupillary membrane.

A case is reported of spontaneous hyphaema arising from a persistent strand of vascularised pupillary membrane. This strand, and an aneurysmal dilatation from which haemorrhage occurred, were illustrated by fluorescein angiography. The embryogenesis of pupillary membranes is discussed and the literature is reviewed with reference to spontaneous hyphaema.

Isolation and characterization of rabbit peritoneal mesothelial cells.

Four enriched mesothelial cell populations distinguished by different size and density were obtained when a unit gravity sedimentation procedure was applied to pronase-dispersed rabbit peritoneal mesothelial cells. Cell integrity was confirmed by trypan blue, ultrastructural and biosynthetic analyses, as well as by explantation in tissue culture. The enriched mesothelial cells displayed the immunocytochemical, ultrastructural and growth characteristics of native mesothelial cells. This isolation and separation procedure should provide a valuable experimental tool to study the pathobiology of m

Independent deposition of collagen types II and IX at epithelial-mesenchymal interfaces.

Previous studies have demonstrated the presence of type II collagen (in mature chickens predominantly a 'cartilage-specific' collagen) in a … tage 16; this correlates with the period during which limb ectoderm has been reported to induce the mesoderm to become chondrogenic. Finally, in older hind limbs we observed subepithelial type II collagen that was not associated with subsequent chondrogenesis, but appeared to parallel the formation of feathers and scales in the developing limb. These obser …

Heat shock causes repeated segmental anomalies in the chick embryo.

A single heat shock, given to 2-day-old chick embryos, can generate multiple but discrete somite and skeletal anomalies. Each of these anomalies is restricted to one, or at the most two, consecutive segments. The anomalies are separated from each other by a distance of 6-7 somites or vertebrae, or a multiple of this distance. These results argue against the 'clock and wavefront' model; while they support the idea of a cellular clock, they are not consistent with a single propagating wave gating cells destined to form each segment. Heat shock also alters the size and number of segments, as well

[An experimental study on the pathogenesis of congenital hand malformations--with reference to local disturbance in the limb bud and polydactyly].

Pathogenetic conditions for polydactyly and its pathogenesis were studied by inducing the condition at a high incidence by incubating fertilized ova of white leghorns and locally cauterizing the limb bud with a bipolar microcoagulator. Polydactyly commonly occurred in about 12 hours of the latter half of the third day after cauterization (5 watts) of the preaxial area of the limb bud. This suggests the involvement of space- and time-specificity under the appropriate strength of such stimulation in the pathogenesis of polydactyly. Most polydactyly involved the first toe. Disturbance in the prim

Adnp2 promotes neural induction by antagonizing the ved and vent homeobox genes.

In vertebrates, neural induction requires the inhibition of BMP signals by dorsal organizer-derived antagonists. However, the underlying mec … ox homeobox genes, thereby excluding their expression from dorsal territories, including the dorsal mesoderm and presumptive neural plate. adnp2-deficient larvae display aberrant behavioral alterations, which can be partially rescued by the administration of BMP antagonist Dorsomorphin or dnBmpr1 mRNAs. Mesenchymal stem cell therapy in autoimmune eye diseases: Focus on dry eye diseases and autoimmune uveitis.

Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are a class of pluripotent stem cells derived from the mesoderm. One of the most notable characteristics of MSCs is their multi-directional differentiation potential. Under specific induction conditions, they can differentiate into various types of cells and are currently mostly used to repair damaged tissues with limited intrinsic regenerative capacity. Autoimmune eye diseases such as Sjögren's syndrome (SS)-related dry eye disease (DED) and autoimmune uveitis (AU), represent a group of diseases caused by immune-mediated damage to ocular tissues, which seriously …

Ruptured Orbital Dermoid Cyst Masked as a Migraine in a 25-Year-Old Male.

Dermoid cysts are a variation of teratoma made up of ectoderm and mesoderm and represent a large proportion of scalp and skull masses found in children. Orbital dermoid cysts are an exceedingly rare form of primary orbital tumors. We present a case of a 25-year-old active duty male presenting with new onset migraines, eye pain on waking, and intermittent blurred vision. According to current clinical practice guidelines, intracranial imaging was obtained, which revealed an orbital mass. The mass was successfully excised, and surgical pathology confirmed the diagnosis of an orbital dermoid cyst.…

A positive feedback loop between germ cells and gonads induces and maintains sexual reproduction in a cnidarian.

The fertile gonad includes cells of two distinct developmental origins: the somatic mesoderm and the germ line. How somatic and germ cells interact to develop and maintain fertility is not well understood. Here, using grafting experiments and transgenic reporter animals, we find that a specific part of the gonad-the germinal zone-acts as a sexual organizer to induce and maintain de novo germ cells and somatic gonads in the cnidarian Hydractinia symbiolongicarpus. Germ cells express a member of the transforming growth factor-β family, Gonadless (Gls), that induces gonad morphogenesis. Loss of G…

Ipsilateral Supernumerary Heads of the Sternocleidomastoid and Flat Fibers of the Omohyoid Muscle: A Cadaveric Case Report.

This case report presents an ipsilateral anatomical variation in the right neck of an 80-year-old male cadaver. The Sternocleidomastoid muscle exhibited four heads, one sternal and three clavicular heads. All the heads are merging into a common belly and inserting normally into the mastoid process. The right omohyoid muscle appeared as flat fibers, lacking an intermediate tendon and having its superior belly fused with the sternohyoid muscle. Abnormal development of the embryonic branchial arch mesoderm and occipital myotome leads to these variations. The Sternocleidomastoid and omohyoid are c…

Reassessment of marker genes in human induced pluripotent stem cells for enhanced quality control.

Human induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) have great potential in research, but pluripotency testing faces challenges due to non-standardized methods and ambiguous markers. Here, we use long-read nanopore transcriptome sequencing to discover 172 genes linked to cell states not covered by current guidelines. We validate 12 genes by qPCR as unique markers for specific cell fates: pluripotency (CNMD, NANOG, SPP1), endoderm (CER1, EOMES, GATA6), mesoderm (APLNR, HAND1, HOXB7), and ectoderm (HES5, PAMR1, PAX6). Using these genes, we develop a machine learning-based scoring system, "hiPSCore", tr…

A Dermoid Cyst of the Head, Neck, and Face Region: A Case Report.

Dermoid cyst (DC), a rare benign tumor of developmental origin that develops from mesoderm and ectoderm, is frequently identified in children. DC refers to three cysts that are histologically related, namely, DC, epidermoid cyst, and teratoma. About 70% of DCs are discovered in children aged five years or younger, with the majority being congenital. DC of the head and neck are rare, accounting for only 7% of all such cysts. DC, or benign cutaneous tumors, tend to grow and persist. The presence of epithelial cells along the lines of embryonic closure results in a DC. It is always difficult to p…

Emerging Role and Mechanism of Mesenchymal Stem Cells-Derived Extracellular Vesicles in Rheumatic Disease.

Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are pluripotent stem cells derived from mesoderm. Through cell-to-cell contact or paracrine effects, they carry out biological tasks like immunomodulatory, anti-inflammatory, regeneration, and repair. Extracellular vesicles (EVs) are the primary mechanism for the paracrine regulation of MSCs. They deliver proteins, nucleic acids, lipids, and other active compounds to various tissues and organs, thus facilitating intercellular communication. Rheumatic diseases may be treated using MSCs and MSC-derived EVs (MSC-EVs) due to their immunomodulatory capabilities, accord…

p53-Armed Oncolytic Virotherapy Improves Radiosensitivity in Soft-Tissue Sarcoma by Suppressing BCL-xL Expression.

Soft-tissue sarcoma (STS) is a heterogeneous group of rare tumors originating predominantly from the embryonic mesoderm. Despite the development of combined modalities including radiotherapy, STSs are often refractory to antitumor modalities, and novel strategies that improve the prognosis of STS patients are needed. We previously demonstrated the therapeutic potential of two telomerase-specific replication-competent oncolytic adenoviruses, OBP-301 and tumor suppressor p53-armed OBP-702, in human STS cells. Here, we demonstrate in vitro and in vivo antitumor effects of OBP-702 in combination w…

Single-cell transcriptomic profiling redefines the origin and specification of early adrenogonadal progenitors.

Adrenal cortex and gonads represent the two major steroidogenic organs in mammals. Both tissues are considered to share a common development … ruction reveals that adrenogonadal cells emerge from the lateral plate rather than the intermediate mesoderm. Surprisingly, we find that gonadal and adrenal fates have already diverged prior to Nr5a1 expression. Finally, lineage separation into gonadal and adrenal fates involves canonical versus non-canonical Wnt signaling and differential expression of Ho …

Research advances in crosstalk between muscle and bone in osteosarcopenia (Review).

Osteosarcopenia is a burgeoning geriatric syndrome and a familiar disease among older individuals. It is characterized by reduced skeletal m … ted to continue to increase. Both muscle and bone belong to the motor system and originate from the mesoderm; therefore, sarcopenia and osteoporosis also share similar pathogenical factors, which influence and regulate each other. Studying the pathogenesis and treatment of osteosarcopenia is of great significance to improve the quality of life of patients. …

Loss of Tbx1 interrupts mesoderm to CNCC cell-cell communication with upregulation and premature activation of BMP signaling and reduced MAPK signaling, as well as alteration of other signaling, and failed dynamic transitions of CNCCs leading to disruption of aortic arch artery for …

Functional cargos of exosomes derived from Flk-1+ vascular progenitors enable neurulation and ameliorate embryonic anomalies in diabetic pregnancy.

Источник пометил публикацию как отозванную

Various types of progenitors initiate individual organ formation and their crosstalk orchestrates morphogenesis for the entire embryo. Here we show that progenitor exosomal communication across embryonic organs occurs in normal development and is altered in embryos of diabetic pregnancy. Endoderm fibroblast growth factor 2 (FGF2) stimulates mesoderm Flk-1+ vascular progenitors to produce exosomes containing the anti-stress protein Survivin. These exosomes act on neural stem cells of the neuroepithelium to facilitate neurulation by inhibiting cellular stress and apoptosis. Maternal diabetes cau…
