Arrangements of CO3 groups in various types of oxycarbonate superconductors are examined by high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM). Every other B-site of basic perovskite structure is replaced with CO3 groups in the first carbonate superconductor, (Ba0.56Sr0.44)2Cu1.1(CO3)0.9Oy. The 123-related oxycarbonate superconductor obtained in a Y-Ca-Sr-Cu-O system, (Y0.475Ca0.475Sr0.05)Sr2Cu2.4(CO3)0.6Oy, has a superstructure with 2a periodicity due to ordered replacements of Cu-site with CO3 groups. The non-superconducting counterpart with 123-related structure, (Y0.84Sr0.16)2Sr2Cu2.

A new method is described which enables the visualization of hidden cellular surfaces of biological tissues. The method does not depend on the kind of fixative solution, the duration of the fixation, or the quantity of extracellular matrix. The samples are chemically dissociated with potassium ethoxide until the first individual cells appear in the solution. Ten salivary stones in the human submandibular gland were investigated by scanning electron microscopy-energy dispersive spectroscopy (SEM-EDS) and X-ray diffraction analyses. The stones usually showed a lamellar pattern. SEM observations revealed cubical, plate-like, granular, small and large granules, polyhedral or globular structures in these stones. This study describes the pattern of microbial colonization in six dental students, who carried test pieces of enamel and root surface in intraoral acrylic appliances for 4, 8, 12, 24, and 48 h, respectively. Erythrocytes are reticulocytes obtained from peripheral blood of a congenital dyserythropoietic anaemia type II patient were examined by immunoelectron microscopy using anti-band 3 and anti-glycophorin A antibodies. Two examples of a variant of benign spiradenoma are reported, both characterized by their large size and high degree of vascularity. The results of studies using light microscopy, transmission electron microscopy and immunohistology are described. The relationship of this unusual variant to other spiradenomas and their eccrine sweat gland origin is discussed. The possible misdiagnosis of this rare type of spiradenoma is emphasized.

The specimens may be obtained either by superficial scraping-off, limited to the epithelial layer, or from corneal buttons obtained at keratoplasty. Scanning (SEM) and transmission (TEM) electron microscopy were used to elucidate morphological changes associated with acute tubular necrosis induced by high doses of mercuric chloride. The morphology and micromorphology of Aristotle's lantern, the feeding apparatus of Scaphechinus mirabilis, were examined using light microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and X-ray microscopy. S. mirabilis had food grooves on the ventral side, which extended to the mouth. Aristotle's lantern was a star-shaped calcareous skeletal structure attached to the test by the apophysis and consisted of pyramids, joints, and teeth.
