The Italian Community-based Pulmonology Manifesto: a national survey exploring the current state, critical issues, and perspectives for a national reference model.

In Italy, demographic aging, increasing multimorbidity, and the growing burden of chronic respiratory conditions have highlighted the need for a reorganization of community-based respiratory services, as outlined by the Italian Ministerial Decree 77/2022, which promotes integrated, proximity-based models of care. Community-based pulmonology care represents a potentially pivotal component of healthcare systems for the management of chronic and complex respiratory diseases. A national, anonymous, web-based survey was conducted among Italian pulmonologists working in territorial and community hea

Emergency medical service organizational structure and prehospital outcomes after out-of-hospital cardiac arrest in China: Insights from the BASIC-OHCA.

AIM: To compare the prehospital outcomes of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) across different emergency medical service (EMS) system organizational models in China. METHODS: This is a retrospective analysis of data from the Baseline Investigation of Out-of-Hospital Cardiac Arrest (BASIC-OHCA) (August 1, 2019-December 31, 2020) in China. Two EMS models were compared. One is independent model, in which all stations are directly established and managed by an independent public agency. The other one is hospital-based model, in which the stations are affiliated to hospitals. The primary outco

Random innervation of cerebellar Purkinje cells as a substrate for diverse representational learning.

Although the cerebellar microcircuit is among the most well-characterized systems for studying neural computation, recent connectomic analyses highlight deviations from canonical models, raising fundamental questions about connectivity, function, and learning in the system. A key feature of the circuit is the convergence of a vast number of parallel fibers (PFs) onto Purkinje cells (PCs). Prevailing models of cerebellar computation assume all-to-all connectivity at this intersection, whereby a single PC "samples" from all PFs. However, experimental evidence suggests that each PC is innervated

Recognition, rewards, and job performance: the mediating role of perceived organizational support in the Peruvian education sector.

INTRODUCTION: Publicly recognizing employees' achievements and contributions-whether through awards, praise, positive remarks at public meetings, or simply words of thanksâ•flmakes them feel valued and appreciated. This not only improves their performance but also strengthens their sense of belonging to the organization and their commitment to its goals and values. Therefore, the objective of this study was to determine the impact of recognition and rewards on job performance: the mediating role of perceived support from a Peruvian educational organization. METHODS: This study employed a quan

Searching for the Pattern: Understanding, Assessing, and Transforming Social Settings.

A historical analysis of systems theory ideas from the biological and physical sciences reveals their infusion into sociology and action-oriented subfields of psychology, including social, organizational, developmental, and community psychology. Constructs and processes are identified that are useful for creating a framework to understand, assess, and transform social settings. The central theoretical concept that surfaces is the emergent pattern of dynamic transactions that communicates critical information and meaning, referred to as "social regularity." This is followed by an examination of

Comprehensive Analysis of Long-Range Connectivity from and to the Posterior Parietal Cortex of the Mouse.

The posterior parietal cortex (PPC) is a major multimodal association cortex implicated in a variety of higher order cognitive functions, such as visuospatial perception, spatial attention, categorization, and decision-making. The PPC is known to receive inputs from a collection of sensory cortices as well as various subcortical areas and integrate those inputs to facilitate the execution of functions that require diverse information. Although many recent works have been performed with the mouse as a model system, a comprehensive understanding of long-range connectivity of the mouse PPC is sca

Change of heart, change of mind, or change of willpower? Explaining the dynamic relationship between experienced and perpetrated incivility change.

As organizational scholarship increasingly recognizes the dynamic nature of interpersonal stressors like workplace incivility, the present study investigates workplace incivility change and the mechanisms through which it affects employees. Whereas prior research demonstrates that employees who experience workplace incivility are likely to engage in similar behavior because of depleted self-control, the current investigation draws on Metcalfe and Mischel's (1999) dual-process model to examine additional affective and cognitive mechanisms underlying this dynamic process. We propose that interce

Analyzing the Job Demands-Control-Support Model in Work-Life Balance: A Study among Nurses in the European Context.

The balance of personal life with professional life is a topical issue that is increasingly worrisome due to globalization, the rapid introduction of new technologies into all areas of human life, the overlap between time between work and family, new organizational systems, and changes in the nature of work. This problem is accentuated by professions subjected to intense labor demands, as is the case of nurses. Adopting the Job Demand-Control-Support model, the main purpose of this research is to analyze how these factors lead to a greater or lesser degree of work-life balance. The research pr

Exploring the different models of the four-day workweek as social innovations in Germany's healthcare system.

BACKGROUND: The German healthcare system faces a persistent shortage of skilled professionals, particularly in nursing, driven by demographic change, high workloads, and challenging working conditions. In response, new working-time models such as the four-day workweek have emerged as potential solutions to improve job attractiveness, employee well-being, and staff retention. This study examines different models of the four-day workweek as social innovations within the healthcare system, focusing on their development, implementation, and implications across institutional levels. METHODS: A qua

The driving mechanism of psychological capital on employees' innovative behavior: the mediating role of work engagement and the moderating role of coaching leadership.

Employee innovative behavior is an important micro-level source of organizational competitiveness. Grounded in conservation of resources (COR) theory, with the job demands-resources (JD-R) model specifying the complementary motivational process, this study examines how PsyCap is associated with innovative behavior and whether this association varies with coaching leadership. Survey data from knowledge workers in Chinese enterprises showed a positive association between PsyCap and innovative behavior. Work engagement partially mediated this association. Coaching leadership was positively associ

Integration of spatial protein imaging and transcriptomics in the human kidney tracks the regenerative potential of proximal tubules.

The organizational principles of nephronal segments are based on anatomical and physiological attributes that are linked to the homeostatic functions of the kidney. Recent molecular approaches have uncovered layers of deeper signatures and states in tubular cells that arise at various time points on the disease trajectory. Here, we introduce an analytical pipeline of multiplexed spatial protein imaging integrated with RNA expression to characterize proximal tubular subpopulations and neighborhoods in human kidney tissue. We demonstrate that, in reference tissue, a large proportion of S1 proxim

Individual quality, insecure organizational attachment, and formalistic task completion: Social cognitive perspective.

Formalistic tasks are widely utilized in modern companies due to their ability to increase productivity and contribute to the achievement of corporate goals at a lower cost. However, these tasks are often meet with resistance from individuals because they do not provide direct short-term rewards for their efforts. Drawing on social cognitive theory, this study examined the influence of individual quality and organizational attachment on the completion of formalistic tasks. To address this, the study conducted a questionnaire survey to collect data from 602 Chinese respondents and built a struc

Communicating trust and trustworthiness through scientists' biographies: Benevolence beliefs.

A goal of many science communicators is to foster trust in scientists and their work. This study investigates if existing textual resources that scientists create in the course of their regular activities can be improved to enhance perceptions of scientists as trustworthy. Building on Mayer et al.'s integrative model of organizational trust, we examine how communicating benevolence through short biographies can affect trustworthiness perceptions using a 3 (degree of benevolence information: high, unspecified, low) × 3 (research area: crop genetics, corn and soy genetics, biotechnology use) sur

Abnormal Dynamic Community Structure of Patients with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder in the Resting State.

OBJECTIVE: Some static network studies have suggested that the community structure in the brains of ADHD patients is altered. However, ADHD is now increasingly regarded as a disorder of neural dynamics, but the dynamic reconstruction of brain communities in ADHD patients is far from being understood. METHOD: Forty-two ADHD patients and fifty healthy controls participated in this study. We constructed a multilayer network model and calculated several metrics for quantifying community reconstruction at different levels. Results: Regardless of the level of research, the flexibility and cohesion

From Awareness to Action: The Community of Sarnia Mobilizes to Protect its Workers from Occupational Disease.

An exploratory qualitative case study investigated how different sectors of a highly industrialized community mobilized in the 1990s to help workers exposed to asbestos. For this study, thirty key informants including representatives from industry, workers, the community, and local politicians participated in semi-structured interviews and focus groups. The analysis was framed by a "Dimensions of Community Change" model. The informants highlighted the importance of raising awareness, and the need for leadership, social and organizational networks, acquiring skills and resources, individual and

The life of Brigadier General Theodore C. Lyster.

Theodore C. Lyster is a familiar name to aerospace medicine physicians. His early recognition of the unique physical requirements of aviators, the specialized training necessary for flight surgeons, and the need for altitude physiology research provided the foundation on which the specialty of aviation medicine was built. Lyster's medical career, however, encompassed much more than aviation medicine. From his earliest assignment as a contract physician in Cuba in 1899 until his entry into private practice in 1921, he was heavily involved with the fight against yellow fever. In the era before m
