Knowledge, Attitude, and Practice Levels of Nurses in Primary Hospitals Regarding Elderly Subsyndromal Delirium: Assessment and Development of a Network-Based Tiered Training Program.

Aims/Background Subsyndromal delirium (SSD) in elderly patients can lead to prolonged hospital stays, reduced quality of life, and cognitive decline. Evidence suggests that nursing interventions play a key role in mitigating SSD risk by facilitating early identification as well as timely and effective interventions. This study aimed to assess the knowledge, attitude, and practice (KAP) levels of nurses in primary hospitals regarding elderly SSD, identify factors influencing these levels, and construct a network-based tiered training program. Methods A literature review and Delphi expert consul

They're Dying. Now What? The Impact of a 2-Hour End-of-Life Educational Intervention on Bedside Nurse Self-efficacy, Knowledge, and Clinical Practice.

The palliative care team identified a lack of knowledge and confidence for nurses providing end-of-life care in a hospital. The team completed a quality improvement project establishing significant improvement in knowledge and self-efficacy after a 2-hour educational intervention. The next step was to study the impact on practice. Clinical management of pain, dyspnea, secretions, and agitation was compared for a 3-month period before and after intervention. Thirty-six patients were identified in the preintervention group, and 46 patients were in the postintervention group. A 2-sample proportio

From the community to the emergency department: A study of hospital emergency department nursing practices from the perspective of carers of a loved one with Borderline Personality Disorder.

Carers of loved ones with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) often present to Emergency Departments (ED) during acute crisis situations. The initial contact for the carer and consumer in distress is often an emergency nurse. By gaining a greater understanding of carers (18+) perspectives on ED nursing practices when consumers with BPD are requiring crisis support, knowledge about preferred and best practice can be gained. To obtain this knowledge, four semi-structured focus group interviews were undertaken with a purposive sample of 13 carers through existing carer networks. Transcripts wer

One of the most difficult issues is their preoperative care, which is still managed by either skeletal or skin traction in some countries, including Italy. These issues are discussed and compared with the contemporary literature. OBJECTIVE: This study aims to analyse the distribution of these treatment options within the orthopaedic community and the reasons for their use, as well as to identify how this may impact nursing care in terms of pain management, hygiene care, venous thromboembolism (VTE)prophylaxis and preventi

The "ABCs of AD": A pilot test of an online educational module to increase use of the autonomic dysreflexia clinical practice guidelines among paramedic and nurse trainees.

CONTEXT/OBJECTIVE: Despite availability of clinical practice guidelines (CPGs), gaps in autonomic dysreflexia (AD) knowledge and practice persist. A free, online educational module, the "ABCs of AD", was developed to improve knowledge of the AD-CPGs among emergency healthcare personnel. We examine short-term changes in paramedic and nurse trainees' knowledge of, and social cognitions towards using, the AD-CPGs following module completion. DESIGN: Pre-post. METHODS: Thirty-four paramedic and nurse trainees from two training programs in Canada completed measures immediately before and after vi

Effect of a structured nurse-led empowerment protocol on knowledge, practical skills, and self-care behaviours among patients with permanent pacemakers: a quasi-experimental study.

BACKGROUND: Patients with permanent pacemakers frequently demonstrate insufficient knowledge and inadequate self-care behaviours, which increase the risk of avoidable post-implantation complications. Structured, theory-informed empowerment protocols may improve these outcomes, yet robust evidence from low- and middle-income countries remains limited. Grounded in Bandura's self-efficacy theory and a patient-empowerment model, this study evaluated the effect of a nurse-led empowerment protocol on knowledge, practical skills, and self-care behaviours among patients with permanent pacemakers. A Real-Time Prospective Evaluation of the Prognostic Accuracy of SIRS, MEWS, NEWS2 and qSOFA in Predicting ICU Admission and Mortality in an Emergency Department: Implications for Nursing Practice.

BACKGROUND: Early identification of emergency department (ED) patients with suspected infection who are at risk for adverse outcomes is a core nursing responsibility during triage and early observation. Scoring systems vary in sensitivity and specificity, with limited prospective, real-time comparisons in Greek EDs. AIM: To compare the prognostic accuracy of SIRS, MEWS, NEWS2 and qSOFA for predicting prolonged ICU stay (≥ 3 days) and 28-day in-hospital mortality and to assess performance across clinically relevant subgroups that shape nursing decision-making.
