An Evaluation of International Standards for Neurological Classification of Spinal Cord Injury (ISNCSCI) Performance Within the Canadian SCI Network.

OBJECTIVES: To describe the performance of the International Standards for Neurological Classification of Spinal Cord Injury (ISNCSCI) examination in individuals with traumatic spinal cord injury (TSCI) and nontraumatic spinal cord injury (NTSCI) across Canadian acute and rehabilitation facilities, evaluating timing, completeness, and classification accuracy. METHODS: Using the Rick Hansen Spinal Cord Injury Registry (2015-2022), participants were analyzed across 6 cohorts: (A) TSCI-acute-admission (n = 4461), (B) TSCI-acute-discharge (n = 972), (C) TSCI-rehabilitation-admission (n = 2673), (

Understanding the complexities of oral healthcare delivery in correctional settings: a qualitative exploration of barriers, facilitators, and opportunities.

BACKGROUND: People living in prison face exceptionally high prevalence rates of tooth decay, periodontal disease, and poor oral health-related quality of life. Despite its importance, various aspects of oral healthcare in prison settings remain understudied. The present study investigates the barriers and facilitators associated with providing and utilizing oral health services in prison settings, drawing on insights from prison health experts, managerial and custodial staff, healthcare providers, and individuals with lived experience of imprisonment. METHODS: From March to June 2023, a total

Older Adult Volunteers' Experiences Delivering a Lay-Led Behavioral Activation Program for Depression Among Community-Dwelling Older Adults: A Mixed Methods Study.

OBJECTIVES: To evaluate coaches' experiences delivering a lay-led depression intervention (Do More, Feel Better; DMFB) during a Type I hybrid effectiveness-implementation RCT. METHODS: We conducted a process evaluation to assess DMFB feasibility, appropriateness, fidelity, and acceptability in 12 senior centers in Florida, New York, and Washington (USA). DMFB is streamlined Behavioral Activation delivered by older adult volunteers from senior center communities. Data sources included eligibility and exit interviews with surveys and external fidelity ratings of session recordings. RESULTS: Th

What Are the Determinants of the Sex/Gender Difference in Duration of Work Absence for Musculoskeletal Disorders? A Mixed-Studies Systematic Review.

Background/Objectives: Musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) contribute to work disability arising from personal and work-related physical, organizational and psychosocial factors that often differentially affect men and women. We aimed to identify determinants of the sex/gender difference in duration of MSD work absence through a mixed-studies systematic review. Methods: We synthesized evidence using the Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development and Evaluation (GRADE) approach adapted to prognostic studies and meta-ethnography for qualitative studies, followed by a mixed synthesis. Resul

Comparison Between In-Office Versus Remote Follow-Up Costs in Patients with Pacemakers and Reimbursed Transportation in a Portuguese District Hospital.

Background: Digital technologies can contribute to healthcare democratization in an ethical, safe, and sustainable context. The remote monitoring of implantable cardiac devices enables the follow-up of patients from a distance. Patients with anti-bradycardia pacemakers represent the largest group and have the least access to this technology due to the controversial cost-benefit ratio and barriers to its widespread implementation, such as equipment costs and organizational challenges. In contrast, reimbursed transportation in Portugal reached approximately 82 million euros in 2024. Objectives:

Gene therapy for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy: assessing the readiness of Italian centres of expertise.

OBJECTIVES: Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) is a heritable disorder that causes a rapid and progressive loss of ambulatory skills. There is no curative therapy for this pathology, that is currently managed with a combination of physiotherapy and pharmacological interventions limiting the progression of the disease (e.g. corticosteroids, cardiac medications). However, a new opportunity is represented by gene therapy, a promising treatment that, however, requires significant expertise during the whole delivery of care and a solid organisational infrastructure. An organisational strategy that c

Clinicians' perceptions on implementation strategies used to facilitate ABCDEF bundle adoption: A multicenter survey.

BACKGROUND: Intensive care unit (ICU) clinicians struggle to routinely implement the ICU Liberation bundle (ABCDEF bundle). As a result, critically ill patients experience increased risk of morbidity and mortality. Despite extensive research related to the barriers and facilitators of bundle use, little is known regarding which implementation strategies are used to facilitate its adoption and sustainability. OBJECTIVES: To identify implementation strategies used to increase adoption of the ABCDEF bundle and how those strategies are perceived by end-users (i.e., ICU clinicians) related to thei

Healthcare professionals' perceived barriers in providing palliative care in primary care and nursing homes: a survey study.

BACKGROUND: Palliative care in primary care and nursing home settings is becoming increasingly important. A multidimensional palliative care approach, provided by a multiprofessional team, is essential to meeting patients' and relatives' values, wishes, and needs. Factors that hamper the provision of palliative care in this context have not yet been fully explored. OBJECTIVES: To identify the barriers to providing palliative care for patients at home or in nursing homes as perceived by healthcare professionals. DESIGN: Cross-sectional survey study. METHODS: A convenience sample of nurses, d

Nuts and bolts of running a pulmonary embolism response team: results from an organizational survey of the National PERT™ Consortium members.

OBJECTIVES: Pulmonary embolism response teams (PERT) are developing rapidly to operationalize multi-disciplinary care for acute pulmonary embolism patients. Our objective is to describe the core components of PERT necessary for newly developing programs. METHODS: An online organizational survey of active National PERT™ Consortium members was performed between April and June 2016. Analysis, including descriptive statistics and Kruskal-Wallis tests, was performed on centers self-reporting a fully operational PERT program. RESULTS: The survey response rate was 80%. Understanding location- and feature-based processing along the human intraparietal sulcus.

Based on different cognitive tasks and mapping methods, the human intraparietal sulcus (IPS) has been subdivided according to multiple different organizational schemes. The presence of topographically organized regions throughout IPS indicates a strong location-based processing in this brain region. However, visual short-term memory (VSTM) studies have shown that while a region in the inferior IPS region (inferior IPS) is involved in object individuation and selection based on location, a region in the superior IPS (superior IPS) primarily encodes and stores object featural information. Here,
